You cannot return used goods under DSR, you only have the right to inspect them (not use them to pluck hair from your body). This product is not faulty and you have used it so why would you think they should take it back???

Who would want a used epilator?

Why is it always someone else's fault?

While that may be the intention of DSRs, there is nothing within the legislation that defines what you can do to inspect an item (rule of thumb says "whatever you're allowed to do in a shop", but this isn't actually stated).

In my view - legally, the store has to refund then try and claim the money back using something like 17.2b - failure to take reasonable care of the goods. In practice the OP would probably have to make a claim and Littlewoods would make a counterclaim.

Last time I checked. I don't think a store would let you pluck your pits, legs and pubes out in store. For hygiene obviously.

So this would exempt it surely? She's used it, not just examined it.

If you have USED it, then you cannot return it under DSRs.

(I would be horrified if I bought an epilator and discovered someone elses hair on it!!)
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

The item was used to pluck hair - not something that would normally be done in store... why should the company have to refund money on used goods just because the OP's baby is sensitive to the sound?

    This world has gone mad!

I certainly wouldn't buy a used epilator!
  • I am surprised at the rudeness of some people on here.

This was a query, nothing more. I did not get all huffy at the prospect of them not taking it back, merely asked opinion, as I know that some exceptions set out by companies are in fact in contravention of the law.

I would expect that if it WAS returned, Littlewoods would themselves return it to the manufacturer, who would then clean and sterilize the blades.

There was no way to test the item without plucking "pits, legs and pubes" (thanks, Tinkerbell 28), so what if I had not been happy with the actual plucking action? Would that be cause for a refund, or just a credit note?

"Why is it always someone else's fault?" says Tiddlywinks - a needlessly catty comment.

thank you tomwakefield and frugal_mike for actually trying to help and not getting all squeamish and assuming I expected the thing to be resold as is.

Would you be happy to buy a 'used but sterilised' epilator? :o

Your rights to a refund are not linked to the return of the goods or their condition. Any claim for such would be independent to this. Although in reality this simply doesn't happen.

In my view tomw is correct, it can be returned, morally though its barmy to expect such

... and I am surprised at your presumption that someone else should subsidise your buying decisions.

Why the heck should yhey have to? You used a "personal care" item... would you want to buy one that someone else had used?

Not catty, just fed up with people who think that everyone should bow to their wishes.

You came on here hoping for a "there, there, Littlewoods are big and bad and you are the victim" type of response... sorry to disappoint!
