  • Not sure thats advice as such, but thats whats helping me. Writing list and trying my best to stick to it, unless its something YS and too good to miss.

    Good luck!

Today for me a £3.80 spend on milk, bread and cheese

Simply sausage sandwiches for lunch and tea is chicken bites and actifry chips. Potatoes are from my in-laws allotment and chicken bites were in the freezer.

I do try to only stick to offers that we need, so three for two on Quorn, offer on fruit juice - 2 litres for a pound and cartons for school, crisps for school, fruit we'd ran out of and some frozen veggies and vegetarian bits and a few treats. So think I did well, as there was alot more i could have added. Total was £65. I probably won't use some til Sep so maybe my spends will be less then too. It's hard but I'll try to meal plan and only stick to what I need, unless it's unmissable. I also spent about £7 on milk, ys cherries, ys blueberries and sandwich thins. So about £25-30 over budget now although that should be it apart from fizzy water tomorrow from Mr M.
GC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 July ££110.46/£150 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. One person vegan household with occasional visitors)

I would say £25-£30 over isn't massively over budget. I seriously think the summer holidays have a lot to answer for! Lets hope September proves us right ;)

  • Ran out of pop, so ended up at Mr T's this evening. Got a couple of bottles of pepsi, so energy drinks for Mr CP for his football training (they were half price), some biscuits, crisps, YS stuff and apples. Spent a total of £11.40 and it gave me a ticket for £6 off my next £40 spend which goes to show how little i spend in their now in comparison to what i used to! :) It will come in handy for my big shop on Friday :)

    Will update siggy

Spent £18 on more groceries bringing my total for August to £130, if you see me in a supermarket please slap my legs.

Next month I am going to be Mrs Focused of no1 Focused Street.

Where 'MrsCautious' came from is beyond me!

I've been putting things back before I go through the till a lot, that includes fresh fruit like blueberries and strawberries, nuts, biscuits, crisps etc, I pick them up as I know we like them but we absolutely don't need them and have apples/bananas already. I've told my children we can't afford certain things every week and remarkably they really haven't been missed but then we have spent half the month with kids in Africa who eat one meal a day so perspectives have changed for all of us.

I'm definitely going to be thinking more about need as opposed to want, and I'm also going on a sponsored diet.

Have got DGS staying for the week, which wasn't planned when I set my budget for the month.

Have had to do a big shop as he is an huge eater! not surprising I suppose for a 15 year old. The shop yesterday was nearly £60:eek: - can't remember the last time I spent that much in one go. However a lot of it will be used next week which should really be part of September's budget! Also need to get a few bits tomorrow when I go out as now having 7 for dinner on Sunday - thought it was only going to be 4.

Haven't done too bad this month as currently just £11 over budget, including the huge unexpected shop yesterday! and I'd reduced my budget by £150 over the last few months.

I've updated my signature to show this spend.

I won't be signing up for the September challenge as we are on holiday for most of it, yay:j.

  • I'll be back on here on Friday to update properly. But I don't think that we've got much more to buy, if anything - and seem to have come in well under our £450 target. Given the month before (and most of them before that!) we were spending £800-£900 on food in a given month this is quite simply astounding. We have done a complete life overhaul - and are really excited to keep it going. We have plenty of motivation, we just need to stay on track, and never ever get ourselves in this mess again.

In fact - not only have we saved on food - but we should be able to pay just over £800 onto our credit card debts this month. That is a complete result, given that we completely ran out of money in July, and yet we've managed to save £hundreds instead just one month later!

We feel like we're at a crossroads right now - and we have two paths to take. One path is to carry on, moaning that we never have any money... all the while, spending and frittering without even noticing. The other path is to scrimp, save, be tight with our money and see what rewards we can achieve from it.

I actually can't wait to update my signature!
