That picture of quiche could be a centrefold in OS Cooking Monthly... Drool.

I made 'pizzas' tonight with sandwich thins (pack of 6 reduced to 49p), some ham that was on offer, some red pesto I bought in my local co-op when all the pesto was weirdly reduced and some reduced Stilton.
I was pleasantly surprised - if I had been less lazy and grilled it rather than nuked it, I think the melted cheese would have been nicer.
So, I have 2 more sandwich thins making me 4 pizzas for lunch and still got 2 left over for something else.
Quite pleased with the lack of effort. I'd be even more pleased if I'd remembered to bring my lunchbox home from work too, d'oh.

  • Well, I nipped out this evening and found a few YS things in W/rose - joint of beef (can't remember when we last had roast beef!), salmon fillets, cod fillets, and 2 packs of sausages) so spent £12.64.

They are now in the freezer and should be enough for 7 or 8 meals each for all four of us so I think that's pretty good.

Putting under the August budget as will adjust the next 'big shop' amount and alter the list to take these into account.

Will be going to Sains as usual for next shop but it will be in the evening, as hubby using the car every day for the next couple of weeks, so will be keeping an eye out for YS stuff (usually go early afternoon so only the first reduction is just being done) interested to see what there is later in the day.

I am hoping that with what I have left in my July purse it should get me through for most of August as I am away for a fortnight during August :):) so will be making do with stocks from cupboards and freezer.I have more than enough to feed me and apart from perhaps fresh milk thats about all I have to buy.So my budget for August is £.0.00 I am eating out at DDs for several days between now and when we go away as well so have very few meals to make.

Still eating out of the freezer and making both lunches and dinners from what we have got in. There has been a spanner thrown in the works though as the heating element in our cooker blew last night so I had to fry the slumming world oven chips I made and the sausages too:eek:

Tonight is vege chilli with rice instead of potato wedges and I will be able to cook the pork chops in the griddle pan on Thursday to go with mash. The fish on the meal plan might have to be swapped for something else, it depends when the part comes, DH is on the case today.

I have meal planned and costed up my list for next week and it comes to £25 but some items like beans and loo roll will last all month. I have a £5 off £40 voucher for mr t so I may add on a couple of next weeks non perishables as DH will want beer, different budget, and this will put me close to the minimum spend.

Meeting a friend for breakfast this morning but will use my personal spends.

Florenceem - those quiches look delicious. I have put quiche on my meal plan for next week:)

I am finding this heat is almost as good as snow and ice for keeping me away from the shops.

I am going to do a couple of weeks of eating out of the freezer as I have no more space in there, so hopefully a very low spend for August. Thats theplan anyway, will see what happens.

    HI Everyone

I really need to re join. My spending has been increasing since I sopped taking part and I need to nip it in the bud now. Just sorted the freezer (a large chest one) and its full to the top. Really need to break the habit of buying stuff just because that's what i would normally buy. Loads of sausages and chicken breast so really just need some lean mince to see me through.

I'm going to budget £220 running from today to the 24th August. It will be a little tight but i really need the challenge. This is to cover everything apart from eating out as this comes from personal spends.

    Hi Everyone,
I've decided to post on here - as we really really need to do something about our spending. We totted up our incomings and outgoings... and we spent a whopping £900 (!!!) on groceries in July, most of which came from popping to the shop for extras... and ran out of money (unsurprisingly) after a few other big purchases.

In August - we aim to halve it... and therefore our budget is £450.

We are a family of two adults (I'm pregnant and eating like a horse), and a 2 year old.

Looking at some of the things you lot have achieved this should be more than doable... and if we stick to it - maybe we'll even manage to reduce that down!

This isn't just about reducing our grocery spend. We are trying to pay off a £25,000 credit card debt, and although we have cut up all cards, and put them on 0%, we are only chipping away slowly. If we could put that extra £450 towards our credit cards then we would have paid them off in no time, and can think about doing things like buying a new house/car without getting ourselves into stupid debt.

We have been stupid *hangs head in shame* but it is time to sort it out. We need your help!!
