a student accoutn is an account for students, as the name suggests.
its normally offers interest free overdraft, and a lot of other freebies such as rail card, and stuff.
you can get more information by popping into your local branch of any bank and ask them about their student account.

I have 2 accounts with barclays. 1 student and 1 standard that Ive had for years. In my student account goes my grant which I spend on uni related things. My wages go in my standard account and these are spent on normal things.Green and White Barmy Army!0

I had been with my banks for a couple of years before I went to uni, I didn't complain when they upgraded my accounts to student with overdrafts. They did request to see my letters to confirm that I had been accepted. Money went in and out of all my accounts and the overdraft was reviewed, I don't see it being a problem so as long you actually have money in and out of them. I had one account when my student loan went into, one where I had my part time job paid into and one where I just put money into and used for emergencies.0
