  • I'm in an 8 year old detached Persimmon. No problems at all.

I'm not overly happy with the windows, they're not keep at keeping out noise but we live in a quiet area so it's not a hue problem.

Funny Tabby, we're in Northampton too, I guess you're talking about the Marina Gardens development. Didn't even think they had a show home yet, did notice they whacked a few houses up in under 2 months, so maybe one of those is this show home.

We live up the road behind what was the old hospital, which they've torn down to make this development. It's a good location, close to the motorway and Sixfields, yet not too busy around the area itself. I have noticed they haven't really gone very deep with digging up the area, looked to me like they only went down a foot, so God knows what's left under that from the old hospital grounds.

Also there were a few old houses on the grounds that had been condemned due to asbestos, I think they just tore those down too, without any extra measures for the asbestos, so remnants of that might be littered all over the grounds...

I have been trying to get as close to Stamford so we have been looking at Kings Cliffe and Oundle developments. Yesterday we went to their development at Sawtry and that seemed a nice location. I'm trying not to get dragged into the excitement of a new house hence the question on MSE about CC quality :-)

Article on the radio recently about couple who bought a Persimmon home (in the north -east I think) - garage wasn't big enough to fit their car in. Apparently a small car would fit in but then the driver couldn't open the door to get get out.

re. Persimmon Homes - their build standards are horrific.

We have nothing but regrets after buying a home from them last year and we are still constantly having to chase them for repairs. Stressful and time wasting.

    Hi Tabby2,

I've been writing on another thread relating to issues which you can see in more detail on 'Persimmon Homes - Subject Access Request'.

Any new building will suffer from shrinkage issue to plaster work. Many evelopers will want to deal with snagging at the 12 Month anniversary, rather than every week.

Personally, all new properties will (should) have been built to current building standards and robust details, and will have been signed off by a warranty provider.

  • We were shown plans of our plot and signed them(this was post reservation). Solicitors also saw these. Noone including the sales office spotted the 'estate rail' marked as running right through our front garden (it was just a line drawn on the plans - no key). This fence is nearly 5 ft high! Runs through about 7 plots ! Persimmon are being very difficult about this. So far we have managed a ceasefire but only by us actually prevenitn subcontractors from doing 'their job'. No one even knows what purpose this giant fence is for... apparently part of planning regulations but I think that's codswallop! Ay thoughts/ advice/help???

Hi. This sounds like a real legal job. Have you got the other seven householders with the same problem together? There is strength in numbers. Sorry I don't know the answer :-(
I hope you get it sorted.
