They are no longer issuing the Secured Card, strange.
  • Maybe they want as many people off secured cards as possible due to the fact they have discontinued them?

  • Received a letter this morning that said this -
Thank you for applying for a Capital One credit card.

Unfortunately we've been unable to process your application. Although we consider existing customers for some of our new products, you haven't fulfilled our criteria for the card that you applied for.

You are a valued customer and I hope you'll continue to enjoy the benefits of your current Capital One credit card.

I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

    Yours sincerely,
    Richard Rolls.
    Head of Application Processing.

So would you say that means it's due to my credit rating or due to me holding another account with them? Seems more like a rejection than a cancellation?

I would say it was a rejection letter personally speaking. I fear you have ended up in a position of not having any card with them now, I think your best shot might be to ring up and see if they will reverse the closure of your secure card, although it is a long shot.

Unless they have changed their policies of late, you will not be able to apply for another Capital One product for 6 months now, if you do it will automatically be rejected.

Pretty sure they still issue it, just no longer show it on their website.
  • It's a tricky one.

Any idea what the easiest capital one card is to get? Apart from the secured card....

    The Capital One Classic.

IIRC the Secured Card was initially offered, by invitation, to some customers who were rejected for other Capital One cards
. Perhaps they have gone back to doing that.

It seemed to have disappeared at the same time Capital One switched to offering Mastercard only. Coincidence, perhaps.

Out of interest, has anyone who had a Capital One Visa card had it replaced by a Mastercard when their card was renewed? Or is Capital One continuing to reissue Visa cards?

They also removed the Capital one World card at the same time as well. I guess Capital One must be doing some restructuring.
  • I have got a Vanquis card too at the moment along with 2 pre-paid credit cards. I will try for the classic capital one instead of the progress, as it stands more chance of getting accepted. Worst case scenario, I live without a capital one card for 6 months.

If you read Capital Ones t&c's it does state somewhere that unless there is 6 months between applications you will be rejected. I also queries this with them personally only Last Autumn and they confirmed it to me.

So if you do go ahead and apply you will just be affecting your credit file needlessly with a search. A better idea is to ring them and ask if they can reverse the cancellation, or stop it if it hasn't already gone ahead.
