Advice please: Switched Utilities, no vouchers.
Hi all, and apologies first if this is the wrong forum area. I have a problem that is in a way half with the utilities company, and half with MSE…
Last September my partner and I switched our Gas & Electric supplier from EDF to Scottish Power, using MSE links that incentivised switching with vouchers [M&S I believe, although it's been so long now I'm not positive of the exact offer].
A couple of months of house-moving upheaval later, we tried to revisit the MSE page that hosted the links we used to switch, but the pages had changed and we could not find them. In February by partner e-mailed MSE asking for advice, but I had little hope for any direct help as I appreciate the website is an extremely busy place. However, much to my surprise and pleasure in March we received the following response:
So now I don’t really know what to do. So, it’s a long shot I know, but can anyone here offer advice? Anyone had similar issues?
Many thanks,
Pete

By this point it was more than five and a half months since we switched. I replied with those details requested (albeit a few weeks after, as my workload was extremely heavy that month), but have heard nothing since, despite several follow-up e-mails asking for any info, e.g. whether someone has asked Scottish Power to investigate or not. I’m having difficulty getting any info directly from SP as they want to know details of the exact incentive, but since the MSE pages have changed we no longer have those details (I should have kept a record somewhere I know, but I naïvely assumed the MSE pages would be superseded by newer ones, not replaced.Hi Kris & Peter

So am I correct in understanding you switched energy provider and then moved house shortly thereafter?
If so, I doubt you are entitled to any vouchers, sorry.
Othewise, By my calcuations, I think this was about September time you applied?
If so this link may help:
http://www.itv.com/thismorning/life/money-matters-with-martin-lewis-energy-bills/Until 29 September [2012] anyone whose home is suitable can get free cavity wall and loft insulation (up to the value of £610), plus a £30 M&S voucher from M&S Energy. Just call 0800 0106 106, or email homeservices@marksandspencer.com to sign up, or to find out more. You’ll also need to quote the code M&S30
Worth a call I would suggest
Meanwhile, you can find more help and advice on the Gas & Electricy board here:

Hi Pete
If the transfer progressed, we should have an agreement for you, and can trace the route that way. However, most deals of this nature transferring to ScottishPower are dependent on the supply transferring. If the transfer did not go ahead, its unlikely you would be eligible for vouchers. Please contact us at the e-mail address in our profile if you would like us to look into it for you.
Hope that helps

Hi all, thanks for the replies!
Sorry if I was unclear; the house I moved into had an EDF keymeter, as it was previously used as a rental property.
When I bought the house and moved in, I took over the EDF 'account', transferred to Scottish Power, and had the keymeter removed. Have been with Scottish Power since.
I will forward my details to the e-mail address David just posted. Thanks again all! Will update when I have some success.0 -

Ah, so to be entirely clear.
1. You moved into a property supplied by EDF via a PPM
2. After registering with EDF, you applied to switch supplier/tariff to SP (and that is what the vouchers would be for)
3. Soon after the switch completed, you asked SP to change the existing PPM for a credit meter (which they presumably charged you for - about £50), and hence a change of tariff.
If this is the correct sequence of events then, again, you may not be entitled to such vouchers as you changed tariff so soon after the original supplier switch.
See what SP come back with ...0 -
Yes, exactly right, except we were not charged by SP to switch to a credit meter.
I hope SP don't use a tariff switch from PPM to credit meter as a reason to deny us the vouchers promised, as we could easily have gotten EDF to switch us over to a credit meter (they offered to), and then transferred to SP afterward. But we chose to switch to SP sooner rather than later.
Either way, I e-mailed them last night and received a read-receipt this morning. Just waiting for an actual response now (I expected they'd need a little time to look into it before replying).
Again, I'll keep y'all up to date on any news I have.
Thanks again.0
