Just saw the tree off level with the top of the fence, it might prove useful as nesting for birds.
If Adolf Hitler had been a Horticulturist and not as he was, a painter and decorator , he would have covered Europe in Leylandia'sYou scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0 -
It's an awful tree in the wrong place. Get rid of it and thank your neighbour for making it obvious.0

cut it down to fence level and then you both can get some light, it will soon grow againBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

It doesn't look like a Leylandii to me.0

Though the tree is too big for the gardens which is a matter of opinion. The neighbour has done nothing wrong. Give them a case of wine for not landing you with the disposal of the trimmings.Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

The way the shadows are falling it looks like it doesn't block light in your garden but does in your neighbour's. Horrible things, conifers."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

Oh and is that first picture what your garden used to look like? Blimey! What happened?"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

I think it was slightly rude to just go ahead and do that but they did after all wait a month or whatever for you to sort it.
They probably purposely cut it like this so you'd be forced to cut the whole thing down. I say keep it there, as is, looking like that. They'll find it just as ugly and will probably annoy them just as much as it did overhanging their property.
For good measure, I'd personally paint it some hideous colour and nail mirrors up and down it for those extra sunny days. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
From that first picture I would suggest a bad choice of garden trees and they have been allowed to get seriously out of hand. A serious chop job should be contemplated. You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0
