Well we all know that the passport system isnt as fast we want it to be, like yesterday. Still it states these as the maximum duration it should take to be processed and returned. It generally turns out allot quicker than stated thou.
Thou for people who have left it to last minute ( I can sometimes fall into that, with certain things) , it is yout own fault ( i do plan well ahead for things like this).

Is Tunisa part of Europe is the question you should be asking your self? There lyes your answer. Thou I have heard on the news that EHIC, even thou has to be accpeted in Europe, was being turned down, but over turn after mentioning the fact. What I am trying to say, it does not mean you shouldnt have travel insurance, just incase things can go very wrong, or theft of items etc.

Because the numpty at the Post Office would point out that something on your application that may be 'borderline', which could cause your application to be rejected, which if you've left it to the last moment could./ would lead top exasperation and a post to MSE along the lines of
"One of the kids passports runs out blah blah passport office saying 3 weeks blah blah system is wrong blame the government and ryanair little Freddie will have to stop at home while his brother an sister are in Disneyland Paris with mum and dad blah blah .." :D

As an ex passport office staff member I wouldn't pay for check and send. We had to return a pretty large number of these 'checked' forms as there were mistakes that had been missed. One application had even been sent in with no photos. Numpty is far politer than some of the words we used to describe the post office person who checked that one.

I bet that you've got loads of stories like that one:beer:.

I've been in quite afew PO queues where the PO chap/lady chap is going down the check and send list and advised people things along the lines of the photo isn't quite right and the eyes aren't where they should be, you've signed this just outside the box, this bit isn't signed, this isn't clearly written etc etc. Quite afew times I've heard variations of "this is borderline for acceptance. I suggest that you redo the form and bring it back" to be told "its alright, I'll take the chance !".

    No system is perfect;)

    Murph

p.s. a few years ago my Dads mind was put at ease by the PO's check and send service. He hadn't had a passport for half a century and the few quid that he gave the PO was money well spent - for him:D
