Carpet faded after 6 months. Different colour where furniture has been.

Hi,

We had new carpets about 6 months ago. As I knew it would be a while before we got our proper bedroom furniture I put the temp wardrobe and tv stand on offcuts of carpet.

We finally got our furniture and I lifted the off cuts to discover the carpet is a markedly different colour under the areas which were covered.

Is this normal after only 6 months? Will these areas fade to the same colour and blend in?

The carpets are light cream colour.

Cheers

No it's not normal at all. Certainly not after 6 months.

It is normal for natural wood flooring to darken where exposed, but not a carpet (none that I've ever had anyway!)

As for whether the rest will change colour, no idea......do you really want to wait to find out rather than putting in a complaint about it now?

Thanks this is what it looks like. It looks worse in person than in the photo to be honest.

This may be a daft question but are you sure the difference is down to a change in colour, it is possible that the carpet is more flattened in one area than the other or the tufts are laid in a different direction. Does a good going over with the hoover make a difference?

Not daft at all I had hoped it was that but hoovering has made little difference. It just looks brighter where it was covered. I will drop a line to the manufacturer see if they can suggest anything.

    "sunfade"
I'm afraid. Totally normal action on the suns ray, do not even have to be direct.

Do you think it will blend in with time?

No, not unless the areas were not exposed are now exposed.

PS I am a professional carpet cleaner, I see it all the rime.

The new furniture doesn't cover the same area so they they are exposed now thats the problem. If I was just covering them back up I wouldn't worry.

So do you think it will blend in or will the areas that were covered always be 6 months behind the rest in terms of sun fade?

I know someone who has terracotta carpeting; some of it is by a patio window which gets direct sunlight, and the fade is really obvious.

The most serious effect is in the first few months, so the newly exposed ares will appear to catch up with the previously exposed areas.

Hope that makes sense!. Nothing to worry about, it is quite normal.
