Eon electricity day/night timebands

Hi all,

Can an EON customer (or someone in the know) please advise what times the EON day and night time rates cover? They will not divulge information to me as the account is not in my name and I cannot find anything on their website.

I am becoming increasingly exasperated at my partner's willingness to line their pockets but if we do it this way then I'd at least like us to see if we can use energy more efficiently.

It not down to who you (or your partner) buys the electricity off, it's decided by the DNO.

Alternatively keep a close eye on your meter for a few days and see when it actually changes. It may even be controlled by a clock you can see on the meter.

Thanks. Clicked on the website for my region and couldn't find it there either so sent them an email. No idea why this information is so difficult to find!
  • They probably dont want to tell you because they dont really know. there are " official " times eg. 12.30 to 7.30 am and there are "real world " times eg. the times that your particular meter decides when the cheap rate 7 hours is. That could be at any time. Due to a large percentage of analogue time switch meters being so far out time because of faulty timeswitches. The newer digital eco 7 meters and meters controlled by radio teleswitch are likely to be accurate

Just switched from Eon and it was 1:00 am to 8:00 am GMT. So, at the moment, that would be midnight to 7:00 am.

Ours is a radio controlled switch which has been there at least 13 years. You can actually hear the switch operate. There is a loud click.

I've just remembered that I had to ask them, or whoever they took over from, when I moved in and I was told the wrong times.

    Hi The Boss

Meter switching times vary depending on the type of meter and the area of the country you're in.

If your partner contacts us, we'll be able to let them know the relevant times. Alternatively, if they drop an email to the address in my Profile, I'll be happy to find out the times.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks gloomendoom, at least i know the radio teleswitch s stick to gmt and dont move. I think the suppliers may be reluctant to give exact timings as so many analogue timers are out of kilter. The best method is to observe your meter and figure out yourself when the cheap rate is switched on. With the faulty ones the cheap rate may well be in a good period in the evening better advantage can be taken
The regional distributors, who own the meters and time switches dont want to spend their money rectifying out of kilter timeswitches leaving the public to mistakenly waste their time and money having their showers and doing the washing etc in the high rate periods

Have an answer from Eon and have now tweaked energy strategy as per their hours :)
