BT and putting another phone socket in

Does anyone know how much it costs for BT to put another box in the house somewhere for a standard line?

I could really do with this being done, otherwise, I will be waiting forever for my husband to sort one out

Do you mean a new line or an extension?

Either way get BT to do it and make sure you have loads of money.

New line will be about £130 and BT have to do that, if it's an extension get hubby to do it.

If you have ADSL broadband it could be a good idea not to use the terminal 3 wire unless you have really old phones that need the bell wire. I have read even with that if you fit a ADSL filter they will still work.

£79.99, think I would go for the £7.99 extension kit maybe times two.

Thanks for that... but at almost £80.. there is no way I could afford that, or justify spending it!

If you see a BT van - ask the person how much it will cost. They may tell you and then offer to do it as a "foreigner" for much, much less. Myself, my sister and my friend did that (diff drivers)

if BT install an extention I think they charge extra with the line rental forever

you can buy a kit and install your own .
Have a look in the local paper .In my area there is someone offering to install phone sockets

The OP wants an extension not another line.:D

As G-N suggests your usually find someone in local paper or local directory who will do it cheaper then BT.

An extension (at last check) costs around the £150 - £160 mark. That includes the engineer call out fee.

I havent been at work for 2 weeks, so im a tad rusty on the price I am afraid.

when we got our line converted from IDSN back to standard phoneline (to get broadband) we asked to get a phone socket in place of the isdn box - wiring was already there, just had to add the socket - they wanted to charge us £120 which is their standard charge for an extention. not sure if there would be a call out charge on top.

after threatening to go elsewhere for our broadband they waived the fee but refuse to guarantee the work.
