Watch out for the Britwell Estate, that is Burnham/Cippenham way.

I live in Langley. As with most places, there are good and bad bits. The direct roads in the village are mainly small victorian houses. Langely can get very busy in rush hour, it can take me 10 minutes to get out of my road at school dropping off time as parking at schools does not really exist.

Definitely avoid Slough town centre, chalvey and britwell.

Forget Castleview catchment areas (Upton Court Road) on your budget, as well as anything near the grammars, even the flats here are near your budget.

I live near St Marys church and 2 bed flats are around £190K, small 3 bed houses £235K.

Realistically you are looking at Cippenham (new developments near Asda, but quite a few grotty areas too) or West Drayton. You wont get much in Iver on your budget either.

We are currently looking for a 3 bed where we live and have a rough budget of £250K and are struggling, so looking at Bracknell which is much more affordable.

If you dont mind being quite near heathrow, Staines is another option with good transport links, as is Uxbridge.

Out of interest do any of these areas suffer from aircraft noise? I can imagine they're on or near the flight path for Heathrow.
  • unlikely. I used to live in Colnbrook then to Langley and finally on the edge of Burnham.

Colnbrook was definitely noisy, particularly in the day when Concorde used to fly over!
Never noticed it in Burnham though - flight paths tend to avoid heavily congested areas like Slough for obvious reasons.

Devildolly, thanks for the reply I have checked Staines and Uxbridge can't get anything in that budget even in Feltham which seems to have gone up.

Indeed, it is very difficult to find 'affordable' housing in West London. Add to that, we are trying to buy on the M4 corridor and so close to Heathrow, this just pushes the prices a bit too far.

Personally, I dont think the houses in our area are worth what people are paying for them but when it comes to supply and demand, the market decided the price I suppose.

Dont forget that crossrail may increase demand also as there will be extra capacity going into and out of London up to Maidenhead. It may be worth looking as far as this as prices do drop the further from the M25 you are, and good rail links makes it easier to get in to London.

A bit further out 5 miles is Bracknell much nicer or head the other way towards Maidenhead. I would AVOID the areas you listed.
