Hello,
I have 200k budget for a Terraced or semi detach house, with this budget I have very few choices to live in West London area,so I would like to gather public input about these areas.
I have read many negative reviews related to Slough so not really sure about it.My priorities are good schools ,safe area(less crime etc),good commute link to central London. Some friends have suggested Watford but there is not much there in that kind of budget that I have.
Will be thankful for any inputs.

slough does not get good reviews but does have good schools (4 grammar schools) and fast links into paddington. thats 2 of your 3 search criteria, so it depends what your priorities are. there are areas that are not too bad there0

I'm currently looking in the same area (actually just put an offer in!) and I'd suggest steering well clear of Slough town centre. It's just horrible. My search has really been based around Cippenham and Burnham, which for me, are much nicer than living too close to Slough town centre itself. 200k will get you a decent 2 perhaps 3 bed terrace on the Windsor Meadows estate, lots of those up for sale at the moment. I lived in Slough/colnbrook for 2.5 years so any questions, just ask!0

Hello Thanks for the reply, can you please name those areas which are not too bad so I try to do my own research based on suggestions.0

jetgirl has given some good suggestions and is very knowledgeable for your situation.
i have friends in cippenham and its nice round there, burnham is nice also i hear but expensive i think.0 -
I used to live in the Burnham area. Cippenham is okay and a much better option than Slough itself I would say. It also has easy cycle access to the Jubilee River which opens up lots of lovely areas to cycle around - Eton, Windsor, Dorney, Bray.
I don't know what the catchment primary schools are like, but there are certainly good primary schools around and some kids from Cippenham do get into them. The Grammar schools all have a good reputation but I don't know much about the other secondary options.0 -
As others have said, Burnham and Cippenham are nicer than most bits of slough, but probably more expensive.
I lived in Bracknell for a while after leaving the Slough area, I'd say it's nicer than Slough. Houses in Bracknell are fairly cheap by SE standards. I've heard the schools aren't great. It has direct train links to central London, but they are slower than Slough's.0 -
For several years we had a lovely little house in Sandlers End in Slough - it's a cul-de-sac off a group of roads (known as the Crofts) that also form a cul-de-sac off Farnham road. The area was reasonably quiet (as quiet as Slough ever is, with the planes, car alarms, traffic noise etc.) and very neighbourly - convenient for shops and schools and because of the lack of through traffic, safer for children.
The only thing I recall about Cippenham is the smell of the sewage works!0 -
Thanks for the quick replies these are really helpful, for schools am looking at Locrating and its looks like there are many good and outstanding one near Langley. Will need to do a crime stats search on this area though.0
