dojoman,
I think the issue of debit cards has being stated as there is evidence on the boards that barclays are now conducting full credit searches not just identity searches when applying and depending on this search giving a debit card or cash card.
As you opened your account I would guess some months ago may not be party to this new change.

Could you please point me in the direction of these posts as I seem to have missed them. When I opened mine I had to go in to a branch as they knew that I was an undischarged bankrupt at the time, they did not just do an identity search as they knew my position anyway. The initial application was rejected but that was to be expected, that is why you have to see someone in the branch, they then had to input the application manually and it was then accepted. I have checked on the Barclays site and the cashcard account details are the same as when I obtained my account. It states " Choose between a Barclays Visa debit card or cash card (ATM only)" this was the case when I opened mine but obviously I opted for the debit card.:pB&SC No. 298

I would actually be a bit stuffed, cant do barclays
Might be worth a personal visit and apply for the basic account?
From posts and threads on here, Barclays will open basic accounts despite being creditors in a BR.No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -

I agree it was a lot easier to open an account years ago, now with the Coop no longer offering accounts to undischarged BRs it adds to the stress and turmoil of going through the process. The Coop is really in the same position as BRs really they have run out of moneyIf you woke up this morning congratulations, you have another chance :j0 -

What they do want is more profits from the banking sector.
It isn't any harder to open an account with Co-op now as it was years ago.
All that has changed, is their policy regarding opening accounts for undischarged BR's.
At the time, and subsequently, they have explained why they adopted this policy.
Since very few bankrupt people do not know it is in the offing, this should have little or no effect on BRs.
For those few who are petitioned against in their absence, there still remains Barclays?
What should be of concern to intending BRs is...neither the Government, nor any other High Street bank, has taken Co-p's hint [or, complaint] seriously.
Co-op's complaint was, because of it's insistence on maintaining it's policy of equanimity towards bankrupts, it had acquired an unfairly disproportionate percentage of low credit, basic account holders.
The worry is, the government couldn't appear to care less? No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
If you can no longer bank with Co-Op, Barclays or any other 'high street' banks, it is worth looking into banking with 'Secure Trust' Bank, or one of the card-based accounts: CashPlus, ClearCash, Think Money etc.
I personally have an account with Secure Trust, and yes, they charge a £12.50 monthly fee. BUT I can successfully off-set this against the cashback deals (3-4% against a lot of big retailers). I know some of the other card-based accounts offer similar.
So all hope is not lost, it's just that banking gets a little less straightforward.
Good luck to all of you looking for new accounts.0 -
