Ebay Postage - Opinions

I have just received an item that was purchased on ebay over the weekend.
I fully understood that the postage would be £4.50 as the seller said in the listing sorry for the high postage but the item is heavy.
Today I have received the item which had been sent as a small parcel with four 1st class stamps attached. So not only was the parcel not as heavy as the seller thought it didnt even have enough postage on to cover it as I think four first class stamps work out at £2.40 when the postage should actually be £2.60. Luckily the post office didnt spot this.
Am I unfair to mark the seller down on postage?

You may well regret the question, the last time someone dared to suggest that sellers should be more careful with postage they got an absolute bashing.
However, it is entirely up to you and no one on here whether they charge excessively or not, should persuade you otherwise.
One tip though, just take a quick look to make sure the seller hasn't refunded anything via paypal and forgotten to send a message to say so.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If you think that overall you've been ripped off then it's up to you, star accordingly. But it's only a couple of quid more than you paid - if it's well packaged and wrapped with it being a heavy item, perhaps it is a more or less accurate cost? Inevitably there's usually a bit added on by some sellers for, I dunno, food consumed to provide energy to get to get in the car to drive to post office, but it might not be as far off as you think.0

The category is Postage & Packaging, so to be fair you'd need to consider whether the packing was also inferior.
The Royal Mail charging schedule is now ridiculously complicated and I would tend to forgive anyone for a one-off mistake. If there are other negative remarks about P&P on his profile, then that's a different matter.0 -

After the thread last week I wanted to bid on 2 items both being sold by a new seller (less than 10 feedback) and both items each had postage costs of £8.90. I knew that they would cost no more than £5.60 combined to post.
So, I messaged her and she said that she had put that price on because "that was what Ebay advised" it became obvious that because the drop down box allows up to that amount she believed that was their advice. Upshot was she took the items to the PO and messaged back to say that I was correct with my costing. I bought the items, she amended the invoice and we are both happy. If I had not done that and she had carried on charging £8.90 postage she would either have sold nothing or sold and been left very low stars and in time been banned.
So, yes, I do think that if they overcharge drastically then you should penalise them for it. Personally, I think that P&P should be just that, others however disagree......vehemently:rotfl::rotfl:
Do what you think is right.:D0 -
Are they normal 1st class stamps or Large?
It's possible some stamps may have come off during transit0 -

Yes that is possible.
I once had to pay to get an item as it had no postage on it(I did get it refunded to me).
They swore blind they had put the postage on.
Funny thing is though, if I ever try to get a stamp off an envelope I can rarely remove it without tearing it.0
