To be honest if it's for a 5 year old I wouldn't think grpahics would be that important. You wanna be looking for playability and nothing beats the Wii!

    I'm 26 and I love it! It's just so more involved! :D

Graphics are not all. I prefer a game with average graphics which is fun and handles well rather than a gorgeous game which is boring and/or which as bad controls.
Super Mario World was far from being the most graphically appealing game for the SNES, yet it remains one of my fav for the platform purely due to perfect playability aand great fun.

So I'd say that XBOX360 and PS3 have better graphics, but for a 5 years old, I'd go for the Wii anyway. Plus it's cheaper, and yes it plays Gamecube games out of the box.

The Wii also has an open source modchip, but it's still illegal.

MY children are 5 and 7, they'll be getting a Wii for Christmas. They've both got DS lites and love playing them, especially Super Mario Bros, Yoshi's Island and Princess Peach. If i was you I'd get a Wii.

The PS2 might be OK as they are cheap and there are loads of games around but in a year or two your son might want to upgrade anyway as he may not want an old console.

As others have said the Wii si the cheapest of the latest consoles, although the graphics are not as good as the PS3 or the Xbox 360 the gameplay is excellent. I think the PS3 and Xbox 360 are aimed more at teenagers and young adults, Nintendo have always made the best games for younger children.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die
