Tesco vouchers for London Hotel?

I have never used clubcard for anything other than shopping at Tesco, but we have a trip to London coming up in August and I was wondering whether it would be a good use of them for an overnight stay? I noticed from the clubcard website that there are various hotel chains offering £30 vouchers for £10 of clubcard. Do any of you more experienced folk reckon this is a good deal in terms of value and also in terms of actually being able to book a family room if I do purchase the vouchers? Or woudl I be better off just trying to find a 'Deal' from Hotwire or Late Rooms etc?

My sister in law used Tesco vouchers once to book a hotel family room and, as she had to book direct with the hotel, had to pay the usual room rate. Her best friend booked an identical room at the same hotel through one of the travel sites (booking.com I think) and actually paid less than my sister in law had in Tesco vouchers. Not sure if this is a frequent occurence though or whether it's just hit and miss.
If you have no other plans to use your clubcard points for any other rewards, I'd use them though. The hard cash you'd have used to pay for the hotel can then be used as spending money. It may be more advantageous though to pay for hotel and use clubcard points for days out vouchers if there are any for London.0 -
Ther have been a number of threads asking a similar question, although this is the only one I can find at present

I think the consensus is that - as his missus says - the hotel sets aside a certain number of rooms specifically for use in the offer and these are at standard (high) rates. You can often get a better deal by making use of offers from the hotel chains in question (such as the Holiday in "2 nights for one" ) or by using intermediate sites like lastminute.com0 -
I concur with the advice above - generally even at 3X, it is not particularly good value and the vouchers can only be used at a weekend usually. I spent a bit of time checking this out and got far better deals with on-line offers leaving the tesco vouchers for other things.
The £8.50 Tesco voucher charge for the Original Bus siteseeing is superb value. Worth checkin out. Smith and Jones pub meal vouchers at 4X are one of the best value rewards particularly as the meals are reasonably priced anyway, and there are quite a few Smith and Jones pubs in London. Even Redspottedhanky at 2X is better value (imo) than the hotel deals at 3X."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools"

Thanks folks, you've pretty much confirmed what I was thinking. I have seen the Original Bus tour offer and definitely think I will go for that, and also the Tower of London offer (£5 for £20) looks really good value. Just need to decide whether we will do a day trip or find a nice cheap deal on an overnight stay.0

Keep us posted on where and for how much you book a room. We are thinking of spending a couple of nights down in London in the near future and would be interested to see current prices(for budget hotels anyway)0
