Help identifying a plant

I'm not being deliberately obtuse but neither of them look like speedwell to me. Equally absolutley NOT aquilegia. I don't think it's forget-me-not either. These are three plants I CAN readily identify.;)
I don't know what it IS though...
:rotfl:
Nobody said it was an aquilegia, and the picture for the 'forget-me-not' was actually an omphalodes, but I'll take your word for it that it's not speedwell!0 -

The leaves in pic 1 don't do the heart shape-thing where their stem is, which seems to be a feature of brunnera. There must be a techie name for this:o .....err....cordate.

I said: "It's always a good idea to put something well known alongside things you want ID-ed so that people have an idea of scale. Anything will do, like a box of matches, or a teaspoon.
Looking alongside the plant in Pic 1 I can see what look like aquilegias, and if they are, then Pic 2 still makes no sense!
referring to scale.
In other words if the other plants in Pic 1 are unopened aquilegia flowers, then it surely can't be the same plant as in Pic 2 because they are completely different in size.
We can play Chinese whispers all night and not solve this....:rotfl:0 -
I had a closer look yesterday but still couldn't match it to the pictures, not sure if that's just me though! if it helps it has those little hairs all over the stems and leaves. Here's the full size images plus an extra one to show the difference between the lawn and flower bed(annoyingly there are two similar flowers in the flower bed! so it may be hard to pick it out)
I'll take some proper close ups of the big version tonight with the leaves next to coins etc to show scale, but we cut the grass so I can't do it for the flowers on the lawn
Comparison
^You can also see how much it's spread all over the grass!! The rest of it is the same!

My last words on this.
They are not the same plant at all.
I believe the first plant is alkanet.
The one in the lawn could be germander speedwell, but I wouldn't put money on it, unless it was someone else's money!0 -

I would agree - first one is alkanet
Second piccie is NOT of the same plant.
OP - pick one of the small plants and photo that plant only, with a teaspoon for comparison please (25 ml)
I suspect it is some sort of speedwell given the size against the grass but...?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Doh, I feel like a right idiot, you're right the big one is, it is alkanet.
the flowers were so similar, I was worried what was on the grass would start sprouting up
We've just cut the grass so I can't get another photo of the small one, should have thought ahead and saved one. I've blown up
the piccie of it, someone may be able to tell from the sizes on the pictures above
Thank you all for the help!Yes Your Dukeiness0 -

I'll also put someone else's money on their being two blue flowered plants, maybe alkanet and speedwell.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0
