Orange Contract Advice
My contract was due to end on the 30th May. I phoned Orange on the 30th and requested that my account be terminated. They asked why and I told them that I already have another contract mobile with another company [which I do] and then at the end of the call he asked me if I wanted some sort of code.
It was either a PUK or PAC code I couldn't understand him and I told him that I didn't need or want one. Anyways at the end of the phone call he gave me a code.
I checked my account online and it's saying that my next bill date is the 1st July and I have my minutes and data again. Does anyone know what's going on?
Orange always stress me out everytime I phone them so I thought I would ask here before I take their heads off over the phone.
Regards,
BlueEew.

First off your contract is never "due to end", your minimum term simply ends, then it will continue on a rolling contract.
You cannot just call and terminate your contract at any point after this minimum term, you must give them 30 days notice.
Just call them and ask for confirmation that your contract will end on the 30th June, as this will be 30 days after you requested that it be cancelled.
The first of July billing date could be your final bill, if the contract ends on 30/6.
Not really fair to "take their heads off" when you openly admit that you didn't understand what was going on when you phoned them last and they stress you out.
PS It would have been a PAC code. This is passed on to your new provider so you can keep your Orange number.0 -
As lottie said you have to give notice to cancel the contract. If you phoned on the last day of your minimum term you will still have another month. The code they were giving you, if it was a PAC code, would be to change your number over to a new SIM card.
If you had agreed to cancel your contract with the person on the phone then this should be your last month with that contract.0 -

Yeah I know it's the mininum and that a contract keeps rolling on a monthly basis after the 12, 18, 24 etc months have gone by [I just worded my post wrong].
I didn't know that you had to give 30 days notice to cancel so that's news to me. Before when my first 24 months had went I phoned to cancel and they basically kept talking me out of it and in the end they offered me a good deal so I took it for 12 months.
When I attempted to cancel last time I phoned before the date given and they told me that I had to phone on the date of the contracts min term. That's why I phoned on the actual date of the end of the 12 month period.
It wouldn't of hurt Orange to inform me that you need to give 30 days notice when I did phone them and also I don't understand why they gave me a PAC code.
They asked me if I needed one I said no, I told them I already have my other contract phone so why on earth would I even need one.
I'm sure he said something like "here is your PAC code give it to your new provider to cancel" if he spoke properly and wasn't rambling on I would of heard him better. As lottie said you have to give notice to cancel the contract. Yeah it would make sense now that I know you have to give 30 days notice, but I don't understant why they gave me the code when I said I didn't want it?
Unless they always provide you with the code when you terminate? To be honest I wouldn't mind getting the number changed to a pay-as-you-go since I have had it for years and could use it now and then.0 -
If you already have a new contract and don't wish to port your number over, then no PAC is required. If you do, it is and you need to give it to the new provider within 30 days.
You can't get a PAC and give notice, because a PAC is a 30 day option to cancel. One cancels out the other.
So you need to phone one or the other depending on your porting requirements. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

So because Orange gave me a PAC I need to use it or else my contract won't terminate in 30 days?0 -
Only if you want to port your number. It serves no other purpose.
If you don't then you didn't need one. If the former, call Horange and clarify the status of your account. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
you will need to check the T&C of your contract and find out how you are supposed to cancel, most of them require it in writing and simply telling them over the phone is not enough.
you can get out of the 30 days notice by using the PAC code, when its used by the new network to transfer your number, then your old contract will automatically be terminated and you will only have to pay up to the day the transfer happened, which could be less than the 30 days u would otherwise have to pay for
if you dont want to use the PAC then you will need to give the 30 days notice which is usually done in writing.0 -
Just phoned them and for the first time ever I had a nice lady answer and she said it will be canceled when I use the PAC number. I said I don't need one and she said there is a 30 day notice so my contract will end on the 28th of this month.
I then confirmed by asking "so I will have one last bill" and she said yes. So I might aswell use the minutes right ?0 -

You will be billed on your normal billing cycle one month ahead, and then receive any credit due (if owing) after your termination date.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
