    But it should have no bearing whatsoever on someone that hopes to be put in the Support Group. To get into that category you have to pass a further test/descriptor - it's all about ability to work not maximising your money.
    The working partner should then support him/her.

    No wonder the appeal system is all clogged up with appeals based purely on the 'we don't want to lose any money' brigade.

    im not disagreeing with you.
    someone could have worked for 2 years and them spend the next 40 on benefit regardless of household income, and would be wrong in most peoples opinion.

    im just pointing out that a loss of income amounting to £100+ a week would be difficult to manage by any household except the most wealthy

    It depends, in those 2 years they may have paid £20,000 in tax and for 40 years not receive any means tested benefits. Whereas someone working 40 years may have taken benefits over the tax they paid for those 40 years and cost a considerable amount when moving to means tested benefits.

    Most people lose more than £100 a week and often for years when they have children and are not wealthy.
