Hey folks,
I know this has been covered a lot already but I couldn't quite get to the answer that i need and would therefore value your advice.
My wife current gets DLA both care and mobility components.
She also get Incapacity Benefit.
These are both related to her severe arthritis.
We've recently recieved notice that we need to apply for ESA in replacement for IB.
I also know that there is something going on with DLA - I think this is to be replaced by PIP.
Can anyone please confirm that i understand this correctly i.e. IB is now ESA and DLA will be replaced by PIP??
Are the two connected or are they independant benefits? I.e. if one decides to stop paying you will it automatically transfer across to the other one?
thanks in advance

DLA/PIP and IB/ESA are not related to each other.
However.
An assessment for any of them can be used as evidence for the others.
For example, if an ESA examination finds that she is not disabled at all, it is important to contest this, even if it would not affect ESA payment, as it might cause problems if the DLA is reviewed.
If you have any income and your wife is placed in the work-related group, it is important to consider an appeal for placement in the support group. This is because otherwise her entitlement to payment will stop after one year.0 -

Not sure I agree that they are not related to each other. ESA was brought in to replace IB and PIP to eventually replace DLA for working age people.

Poorly phrased - 'the two sets - ESA/IB and PIP/DLA have nothing to do with each other.
ESA and IB, and PIP and DLA are of course closely related as they are the new and old versions of each.0 -

Ok great thanks guys - especially Roger.
Not sure i understand your last para sorry - please can you elaborate (i.e. what do you mean "if you have any income" and what is the difference between "Support group" and "work-related group"
:If you have any income and your wife is placed in the work-related group, it is important to consider an appeal for placement in the support group. This is because otherwise her entitlement to payment will stop after one year.0 -
people that are migrated from incapacity benefit to ESA will only be entitled to payment for 1 year if placed in the Work related activity group. after the year, then household income will be taken into consideration.
if migrated from incapacity benefit onto ESA support group, payments will continue as long as the claimant is eligable, regardless of household income0 -
obviously the financial aspect is enormous.
some people have received incapacity benefit for many year but have a working partner.
to lose £100 + a week would have a massive impact on most peoples lives0 -
Existing claimants won't be invited to claim PIP until after the next General Election - you may be happy to learn that ATOS will be dealing with claims in some parts of the Country. Why do I think there won't be a happy ending for manyThese are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0

Actually anybody with a fixed term award or who has a change of circumstances that would result in a payment change will be transferred from October of this year.
It is only claimants with an indefinite award that will not be looked at before 2015.0
