Shelves broken on fridge

I had a similar issue with my old hotpoint fridge. The plastic tabs on both shelves broke off.
I got some threaded Rod from Wickes and cut it to the right length to sit in the notches where the rear shelf tabs previously sat. It worked out great as the rear of the shelves sat nearly level on the metal rods... less than a fiver too and much stronger than the old crappy plastic shelf tabs :-)0 -
Universal wire shelves are available from most domestic appliance spares shops.0

I've got a variant of these for my oven (only came with one shelf?) and it works perfectly. The electrical spares/repair shop I bought it from was also using them (cooker ones) as fridge shelves, but the ones in the above link look much better for a fridge.0 -
The ebay universal shelf is a great suggestion, and would work in most decent fridges, but this Hotpoint one has locating indents at the back of the runners/supports. I've used shelves from a dumped fridge I found by the side of the road on a trip to Scotland - they'd chosen the most scenic part of the Western Highlands to dump it - and they work if you file the lug down a bit. For the universal shelves you'd have to add some kind of a locator. Perhaps a stainless nut and bolt with two large washers. Other bodge suggestions welcome? I intend to get rid of the fridge and get a decent one. It won't be a Hotpoint.0

Just to add, ebay has listed a more expensive shelf with lugs built in.
Put in
2 X UNIVERSAL Adjustable Fridge Shelf White Plastic Coated Freezer Rack
£19 for the two is way better than Hotpoint's price for a product that will break within 2 years and doesn't come with any guarantee.0
