Shelves broken on fridge

My shelves have broken in my fridge and it's becoming more and more costly - as I can buy very little at a time and live ten miles from cheap supermarkets.

I have a hotpoint hul1611, I've looked for replacement shelves and general comments seem to be that this is a fault with the model which hotpoint won't cover see http://www.amazon.co.uk/HOTPOINT-FRIDGE-GLASS-SHELF/dp/B000N5NAMW

Any ideas? I don't mind buying the shelves if they will last but I know that they won't and each shelf is expensive!

It was a shop display fridge which I bough two years ago and I've been struggling for at least a year with it.

That's pricey.... and I thought one I bought 2-3 years ago at about £11-12 including P&P was taking the pee.

Edit... I just checked, bought mine in Dec 2010, checked today's price and it was £9.99 when I bought it - but £28.25 now!!!

    How bizarre

Depending on the actual slot size at the sides of the fridge, can't you just measure up and get a bit of glass cut at a glaziers and ask to have the edged polished ?

or this from one of the users comments on Amazon

" a good temporary fix is to cut a length of metal wall cable trunking the width of the shelves as a support."

not sure I understand it but it may make more sense to you when looking at your fridge

I thought about this but I'm not sure if they would balance as it's the side bits which have broken off and they slot into the sides of the fridge ( hope that makes sense). My neighbour did attempt to contact a glazier last year and they came back with a ridiculous high quote.

of course it does depend on the actual moulding on the side of the fridge, coudl the slot take the thickness of a bit of glass ?

If so - I should try more/different glaziers

No the slot is lower than the shelf it self - which is why the glass has plastic edging

Have you thought of going to a recycling depot ( local tip) Mine has loads of fridges dumped there, from people who get built in's fitted, or cant be bothered getting it repaired when it breaks down.
Either that or a second hand shop might have what you are after.

Our tip is quite away away but my neighbour has looked and brought back shelves to try but the shelves are very specific.

Ask on Freegle / local Facebook free ads to see if anyone has one?

Some of the :rotfl::rotfl:Indesit wire shelves fit and they won't ever break. Hotpoint is one of the worst manufacturers. Mine came with the house, otherwise I would buy Miele or AEG. Miele are pricey, but I bought Miele products 25 years ago and they are still going strong.
