Like a lot of trades there are good and bad, but stoves and the likes have got very popular recently which always attracts the cowboys/chancers.0

The problems with HETAS have been discussed many times on this forum but there are always some very vocal members ready to leap to its defence. Can't think why...
The real problem with it is that it has a near-monopoly on installations in the UK. If you don't use one of its members you have to pay the local council's building inspector to approve the work. Equally bad is that HETAS has a say in what methods and so on are are approved.
It's a limited company with a clear vested interest and should not be allowed such a privileged position..0 -
Once a year as recommended by our sweep. Have had a multifuel stove and open fire with back boiler and he said the same for both.0

I am a sweep - have been for the last 8 1/2 years - never had a van, don't need one to be honest as everything I need is carried in separate totes.
I have all the correct gear - rods - brushes - removal tools - stove service kits etc, all of which fits neatly in the rear of the estate.
Don't tar everyone with the same brush, just because we aren't registered and don't have vans doesn't mean to say we are carp at the job we do thank you very much, I pride the jobs and advice I give out and I have often come across NACS jobs where their service has been below that I would have expected from a so called pro.
Thats why I mentioned grass cutting window cleaning and chimney sweep types, some un registered sweeps are very good and most likely better than many of the so called PRO reg`d sweeps.
Our sweep is registered with the Northern Ireland association of sweeps. He also does window washing and gutter cleaning.
And will even attend a wedding
Most sweeps here have two or three jobs.

I paid £70 in TW13 West London.0

I paid £45.00 in the Bedfordshire area, He said it should be sweep every 2 years. I only use our open fire at weekends.
You might want to phone your house insurance as sometimes they may want it swept once a year. It's not the despair, Laura. I can take the despair. It's the hope I can't stand. ~ Brian Stimpson, Clockwise0 -
I used to pay £25 a time but then I bought my own rods and do it once a year or every other year. I only light the stove at weekends and mostly only burn smokeless for about 4 months of the year.0
