It must've been very scary, but the fright is really over what could have happened to you rather than what did happen.

Everyone thinks you have been compensated enough (so do I, tbh) but if YOU don't, that's fair enough and up to you, so you could raise it with ASDA and state you don't think a £10 voucher is sufficient compensation. They might ask you what you think IS sufficient, so be thinking about what more you want from this.

If your prime concern is bringing it to the attention of the manufacturer to prevent it happening again, you were successful and got a tenner to cover your soup, stamp and 10 minutes writing in. Asda can afford it, so don't feel guilty.

If your prime concern its that Asda should give you more money then make sure you actually injure yourself properly next time! But no amount of money they give you would help the fact that they're working with their supplier to prevent it happening again.

    Ok...yep...I have been a jerk!

I knew, deep down, that I was acting like an idiot, but I have all of you folks to confirm those suspicions - Thanks!

Safety is the main thing, and what a blessing that I was even given that £10 voucher, right?

Have a good day folks, and keep on keepin' on :)

I really don't get it. If that had happened to me I would quite honestly have thrown the piece of plastic in the bin and finished off my soup without another thought. Surely I can't be the only person that thinks in this way.
    It's someone else's fault.

No you're not.But then,I'd have felt a two inch bit of plastic (or smaller) in my mouth mouth pretty much straight away, especially in soup!

Presumably you wouldn't give it another thought if indeed there had been an issue with the production machinery and you heard somebody else had actually swallowed the same bit of plastic.?

The OP could have asked to be cc'd the initial correspondence with the manufacturer to make sure she wasn't just being fobbed off with no action taken.
  • In sympathy for the OP here, I had a similar experience with Asda. In my case it was a waterproof under sheet I bought for my daughters bed. She woke up after the first night with bits of the waterproof layer in her hands her hair..... Well all over really, the plastic had completely separated from the material layer. She was very young into a bed and I was very concerned she could have choked. I phoned Asda and duly sent the sheet back as they asked... I even sent it recorded to make sure they had it. I was terrified some poor child would suffocate.

They sent me a voucher....... But that really wasn't the point. What I actually wanted was to ensure some other child didn't get hurt. I called. Asda head office to make sure it had arrived...... I was told no..... So I don't know whether they ever actually investigated or whether they just decided to ignore it. So in spite of the 'goodwill' gesture, I was left with a not too good impression.

It really is true that a complaint well handled can be more powerful than an experience which went right first time. In this case.... Asda didn't get it right and I don't shop there anymore.

    2) a assurance that the supplier is looking into this blah blah

Why blah, blah? What were you expecting a guided tour and a job offer of chief quality control officer?

Now that it is clear that the piece of plastic was from the seal and that you must have inadvertently dropped it into the pot when you opened the soup, have you sent ASDA their £10 back?

Maybe you should consider sending them an extra £10 for their trouble, having had to deal with a case of user (or shopper) error.....
