Am I going crazy or am i pregant?

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum, and find all the MSE'rs extremely helpful on other threads that I have been reading through. I hope you can help me if you know how frustrating it can be trying to conceive.

Ok, here's the story.

I am 25 years old, I have been with my fiancee for 5 years and I came off the pill about 3 months ago (I was on it for roughly 6 months before for 1st time, we always used condoms before this).

I am 2 days late, about 2 weeks after my last period I had some very light pink spotting and next day a tiny little bit of brown. Nothing after that. I have been moody and my breasts are really sore. I keep needing to go for a wee and now my breasts are very very tender. I had a very metal'ly taste in my mouth yesterday, not to mention I was craving smoked salmon with lemon in the morning (ewww I know lol). I have recently been off fags as I have a couple of drags and they make me feel sick and then quite light headed.

I started taking pregnancy tests roughly 2 weeks ago and they all come out negative.

I have booked an appt with the doctor next week - but do you have any ideas what this could be? I really hope I am lucky enough to be pregant and that it's just too early to tell - it would be a gift from the heavens.

Sorry if it's too long and thanks for reading through!

    Firstly, pregnant not pregant.

Secondly, only the doc can confirm.

Thirdly, lay off the fags anyway in case you are pregnant.

I really hope you get the answer you want from the doc next week. Good luck!

If you're 2 days late why did you start testing 2 weeks ago?! If you think you could be pregnant (and it sounds as if you're trying) you really shouldn't be smoking, at all.

This is how I suspected I was pregnant, even before I was late.

I remember being amazed at how different pregancies are: some people don't know until they're very heavily pregnant/going in to labour, and yet within a week of ovulation/fertilisation, I had noticeable changes. I also started to feel queesy before I was late too.

ETA: I wouldn't go to the doctor's though. Personally I feel it's a waste of scarce resources. Have some patience and do another test during the recommended timeframe. Isn't it only about 4 days 'late' now?

I would agree - it's too early for cravings and probably too early for other symptoms like sore boobs (it took a while for the hormones to fully kick in and give me sore boobs - I was a good few weeks pregnant by the time that kicked in), and as for needing to pee a lot this happens when your uterus is pressing on your bladder and the 'baby' would be far too tiny for this to happen at this stage. It does kick in quite early because your uterus sits lower down and as you progress it moves higher up, but at this stage I don't think there would be any chance that it would be pressing on your bladder.

It's so easy to speculate on every symptom you have, I know - I did the same! But if you do it every month it can lead to more disappointment. The problem is that many pregnancy symptoms are exactly the same as you would get if you are due a period; sore boobs, headaches, mood changes etc...

That being said, somtimes there aren't enough hormones in your urine yet to get a positive so you could be getting false negatives. Are you using your first pee in the morning to test? You'll get a more accurate result from morning urine. Have you had a big drink of water before you did a test? This could dilute your urine and give a false negative.

I have my fingers crossed for you but I would be cautious about getting your hopes up. You might just be a couple of days late, especially seen as you have recently come off the pill - it can take a while for your cycle to become regular.

If it's not to be this time get yourself on the TTC thread! They are incredibly helpful and supportive!

Good luck and let us know how you get on! :)

Edit: Oh yeah and as others have said, stay off the fags if you are trying and start taking folic acid! :)

Thanks Heartbreak_star I will start laying off them asap, I promised myself this is the last of them now. I'm not a heavy smoker its just a habit (very bad one admittedly) I really hope so too and thank you very much!

Tea Lover I got sucked into the whole 'this pregnancy can tell you in the very early stages etc etc' and my symptoms was very obvious so I thought I would try.. Hoping for a positive answer and got negatives, very heart breaking. But thank you anyway.

Lunar Eclipse that does give me some positive hope, it's such an obvious and unusual symptom that it hardly escapes your attention! Yes it's about that time but im extremely unpatient.. I should just shhh myself and take your advice. i really hope I turn out pregnant like you did. If not I'll try not to give up,but I feel it's time now and I would love to be lucky enough to have one.

Thank you all for your answers you are great x

Thanks LoveCake your answer is very insightful, I know you're not trying to 'get me down' but just telling me how things are so I dont get dissappointed. I can't explain the spotting tho?!
Yes I took the HPT's after work around 6pm every time but a couple were first thing in the morning (not the recent ones).
I will definately join the TCC thread soon and thanks for keeping your fingers crossed for me :) x

If you are pregnant enough to have 'symptoms', you are pregnant enough to get a + test.

Don't bother going to the GP. They can't and won't do anything.

You just have to wait it out I'm afraid. The TTC thread may be helpful for you.

P.S, Many women get random spotting at all points through their cycle. Ovulation can cause it, as can implantation, or it could just be one of those things.

Don't want to sound like I'm giving medical advice, this is just from my own experience...

Testing two weeks before AF is due is wasting your tests, quite frankly. On a standard cycle, you would have only just ovulated so you might not have even conceived let alone implanted and begun to produce pregnancy hormones to a level that would show up positive on a test. Even the early ones that claim to test 6 days before are about 15% (from memory - it's in the fine print) accurate at that stage. However if you are now late and tests are still negative, there is a good chance that you're not pregnant. There's a chance you might be and it's a false negative but there's a lot of other reasons to be late, e.g. your body may be adjusting to coming off the pill so your hormones are a bit out of whack.

For what it's worth... when I was trying to conceive, I had what felt like every early pregnancy symptom (including the ones you describe) pretty much every month. I didn't have any of this beforehand or since deciding to stop trying, so I don't think it was PMS or anything like that. I think it was partly being hyper-aware of every little thing and reading too much into it, and also possibly my mind was trying to force my body to be pregnant. :rotfl:

I wish you luck though. And as PP said, hop over to the TTC thread. I only ever lurked there but found it helpful. :)

ETA as I just saw your reply - A small amount of spotting mid-cycle is considered normal, it can be a sign of ovulation.
