Paying for postage online

I know that you can now pay for postage online via paypal and royal mail but I was wondering how this works with special delivery/international signed for.
Do you print the labels from the internet then get the labels stamped by the post office?
Thanks.

With online postage you do still need to take all the Certificates of posting, RD and SD slips to the Post Office to get them stamped and validated.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks soo, thats what I thought.
I wouldn't normally use paypal for postage but it just helps this week!0 -
Don't forget that on-line postage is another nail in the small post office's coffins.0

I use stamps for my items - saves time when i get to the PO to drop off.0

Watch yourself with paypal and airsure/international signed as there is no option for "small packet" , so you will pay for the "letters rate" which is considerably more expensive.
If you do want to use your paypal balance then pay for airmail small packet rate with paypal and then pay the extra for airsure/international signed for at the post office.0 -

With SD/ISF it still goes through the system electronically at the PO so it still takes a bit of time. Remeber those stickers with the numbers on. Personally I dont think there is anying to be gained by paying on line/ or sticking lots of stamps on.

Biased.... work in a PO !0 -
I've bought postage online a few times, usually when I've just got back from the PO and know I can't go again for a day or two and then sell something that I have several of. In those cases I take the risk of the item not arriving knowing I will have to send a duplicate, at my own cost, if it fails to arrive. I do keep it only for cheaper items though where I have a large stock.

Don't bother. You still need to queue at the PO to get the thing stamped anyway.
Got stung once as I didn't realise this, handed it in at the PO and the thing (mobile phone) went normal post, not signed for and normal (3 day) delivery!!!! Receiver was very honest thought, luckily for me!0 -
Thanks for all of your help and comments.
As I said I wouldn't normally use the online services as my post office is fab and I want to support them but it just helps me out this week with it taking 5 working days for money to make it to my account from paypal.
I now know that I will have to queue anyway so ordinarily I wouldn't gain anything in buying on-line, but for 1 week only it means my customers will get their displays when I said they would!0
