Warranty claim

Options
Bought an extended warranty for our dishwasher. Which ended on the 4th may

Had to call them out 3 times prior to this the last day being Easter Monday.

The machines being written off and they are going to supply a new one. However they are saying the decision to write off was made after the 4th of May and that I need to pay for another years warranty. Surely this is wrong as the problems happened while under warranty?

I would say they are correct. Even if the machine was replaced at Easter, while still under warranty, why would you get another year's warranty.

You are out of your warranty period, you have a machine with no warranty, but at least it's a new machine so I would say you are in a good position.

Yes, but the problems happened while under warranty so why do I need to pay for a years warranty which is of no use as I will be getting a new machine.

I wouldn't think you should have to pay for a year's warranty, but you would be accepting that you have no warranty, and are liable for any repairs even though it's a new machine.

Or do you mean they are trying to retrospectively charge you for this year's warranty to make a claim against the new warranty for the replacement? If that's what they are saying I would completely agree with you. If they have written off the machine based on a fault at Easter, it's not your problem that they took so long to make the decision.

Your new machine is in effect your old machine and you have no right to a warranty with it as it is a replacement machine, replaced under warranty. So it does not come with an automatic warranty and also you have no proof of purchase.

As I understand it OP is saying:
Bought a dishwasher sometime in the past, with an extended warranty ending on 4th May 2013
Faulty three times, most recently being Easter Monday 1st April
Decision made to write-off the dishwasher, taken after 4th May 2013
Company want her to pay for another years warranty before they'll swap out for a replacement.

I guess it depends on if the dishwasher is currently broken or not. It seems a long gap between 1st April, 4th May and now. Has it been broken all that time or is it currently working? If so, what has prompted them to offer a replacement?

    Thanks for the replies

Currently the machine works on an add hoc basis and under the warranty terms they will provide a replacement. Not sure about the guarantee of that going forward but as its a new machine should it not come with the manufacturers guarantee anyway. Or is it a continuation of the old machines warranty?

Under their t&cs when the equipment is replaced the plan will end immediately.

The thing is you have no contract with the manufacturer and if you went to them direct they would ask for proof of purchase which you can't provide.

You could argue you don't need a warranty but probably better to take it.

    How much do they want?

It's £80 for a new machine worth £570. I'm happy to pay but would rather not.

When they call me back I'm going to ask about the warranty going forward.
