This part of your post, which I'm guessing came from the T&C's, says to me they can suspend the service before the 28 (or 21) days stated, but usually don't.
We will generally not suspend or end the service or the agreement for non-payment of your bill until 28 days after your payment was due (21 days if you pay monthly).

Hi, and thanks. I agree that if one reads clause 31 of BT's T&C, it is not drafted in such a way as being 100% clear; ie it gives BT wriggle room.

    1. The word "generally" creates some confusion; I read it to mean, and the BT complaints manager confirmed to me today, it is intended to say that if you are billed quarterly and you abuse the 28 day rule and fail to pay within this timeframe, they would substitute 21 days from thereafter. I agree this is not clear.

    2. Secondly, it appears to me that BT has tightened its automated systems regarding late payment - 12 months ago they wouldn't have triggered this more literal adoption of clause 31. So be warned.

    2. Much of the debate was over the word "suspend" which is not defined; what they do is suspend the ability to make outgoing calls.

    4. As stated above they will now charge £7.50 for late payment, and then another £12 when the suspend is lifted. This is in addition to the £2pm fee if like me you don't like variable DD's. Gets expensive!!

Eventually asked for a manager who did in fact call me back within a couple of hours. He immediately said there was an error on their part, he doesn't know how it happened but will fix it after the next bill is issued.

How it should work: In essense the new rules are if you pay by bill quarterly you have 28 days to settle, if you fail to do that you will be restricted to 21 days thereafter. If you are late in making payments, you will be charged £7.50 for a late payment, your outgoing calls will be suspended, and a £12 reconnect charge would be levied. People paying monthly only have a 21 day window.
Great, we followed up on what you did, and eventually using this website they agreed that there was a glitch, and they would refund me.

So stick to your guns guys, don't let the b*****s wear you down.
