Homes between homes

I have recently sold my home but have an 8 week gap before my new home is ready.

Does anyone have any ideas as most let's are for at least 6 months and a hotel is out as I have 3 kids a dog and a cat!

Holiday let, Premier Inn doubt if you will get a private landlord but you might.

Try an advert on Gumtree, local shops etc

Presumably you have gone down the route of checking with friends/family already.

As a minimum is there someone who can take the dog and cat as without the pets you have a better chance.

Can you not change the completion date, have you exchanged already?

Then ring all local agents if any of them have anything at all. Speak to the council as they may be able to offer advice although wont have any duty to house you they may be able to give you info on places that will take short term - unlikely to be the nicest of places tho.

As mentioned advert on gum tree.

At a push, kennel and cattery, and a Premier Inn as mentioned above. Otherwise, there are short let specialists but they tend to be (a) expensive and (b) only in high demand areas eg cities, near airports, etc. Whereabouts are you?

ETA: Also, are you sure about the date that your new home will be "ready"? (New build?) If not, it may be worth just committing to a 6 month rental somewhere cheap, and take off any pressure if there's a delay. (6 months rental at normal prices may be about the same as 8 weeks at short let prices in premium accomodation tbh).

  • Where are you located?

I investigated short term lets when I was potentially going to be in your position. My buyer waited for my new build to be ready in the end though.

(mind: not as good for UK stuff since the american took it over)
  • We are in the same position. Sold our house last week and our new build is supposed to be ready on 1st August. We looked in to a caravan park but in the end decided to stay in the Premier Inn,5 days down 58 to go. It's actually okay. The hardest is the food side of things it can be expensive, we are trying to keep it cheaper by making sandwiches some days in the room. I will report back in a week or two to let you know how we are doing :rotfl:

If you are buying a new build, speak with the developer. It might be they have an empty property you can occupy/rent for the two months (or so).

    Bless you!
How much does 60 days in a premier inn cost ?!

We are/were in same position as the property we intended to buy fell through. We were originally due to have 2 week gap of which going to a hotel was about the same as being at home but when the sale fell through. We are in temporary accommodation with two kids but hope to move in less than 4 weeks (we only moved Saturday).

Try the developer, the ea who sold your house for you may be able to pull a few strings and offer you a rental will early get out, caravan parks for rental, otherwise it's b&b or cheap hotel. If no family or friends will look after the pets I would say these will also have to go to kennels/cattery as its unlikely rental will accept pets. Some do but majority don't.

Depending on where you live, short term rental flats can be widely available. Look for apartments and holiday homes.
