Problems with NS&I?

Options
Has anyone here experienced problems with NS&I? My daughters over the counter at the post office account was converted by NS&I to a POSTAL account, I wrote to close it. Three months later they send a letter to tell me that on a date yet to be confirmed (because they won't tell a POSTAL account holder over the telephone) that my daughter's money was paid to me but they omitted to generate a Closing Statement - from my own investigation it looks like it was paid in 3 months ago - and since no-one had the courtesy to tell me, it has been spent! Needing to act fast to recover the situation, NS&I's extremely unhelpful people/policy of providing no information over the phone dumbfounds me, all I wanted to know was the date they closed the account! What on earth was the point of them adding their customer service number to the letter admitting error. At least they should be honest and say if you need any help or have any questions please WRITE in.

If you are considering an account for your child I recommend that you give NS&I a very wide berth!

Tried today to buy some premium bonds. Tried registering online but was told I couldn't because I was already registered on their system. (I used to have some years ago but don't anymore).

Tried ringing the telephone support number - nobody answers it.

Tried emailing them. Got a response saying that I had to write them a letter telling them my name, address, bond numbers and when I bought them. Sent a reply back telling them I don't have any. Waiting for another response now but I've got a gut feeling this is going to be more trouble than it's worth. Better off putting my money elsewhere I think. NS&I customer service gets a lot of bad press if you Google for it. A lot of unhappy people out there who can't access their money.

Looks like NS&I are stuck in the dark ages. Time for them to invest in some up to date technology. Come on - who in this day and age should have to write a letter requesting any sort of account/password reset?

They are a bit stuck in the dark ages but that's the govt./public sector for you :)

I would always contact them by phone, they are quite helpful once you get through to them so I'd keep trying

I have had dealings with National Savings / NS&I for forty odd years. The only problems that have occurred happened a few years ago when Siemens were running the facilities management contract. The service is now provided not by govt./public sector but for NS&I by ATOS under an FM deal.

"The contract includes provision of operational support services including contact centre management, customer correspondence and enquiry management, collection and repayment of customer monies, IT and management of the customer database."

Ah that competitive freemarket spirit will ensure a service. at the best possible price and least effort for the supplier.

Sent NS&I a letter with the details they required over a week ago now and still not had a response. Therefore, still don't know my holder number and still unable to purchase any Premium Bonds.

    Totally USELESS!!

Looking for somewhere else to put my money instead...

Was trying to find out where the statements for my NS & I bonds were, they don't have that info, have to write in. Written in no response!!.

Spoke to someone else, same problem, no yearly statements given & told to write in as well.

Me thinks something is a foot :(

Really would like to get my money back asap, can anyone help?!.

Their customer services sucks & i would advice people to get their money out & put it elsewhere. Had many a savings/investment accounts all over, but never experienced anything like this!!
No one said it was gonna be easy!

Had a forgotten passbook account and then received a statement this year.

I wrote and asked for a statement since opened which they resounded too with an error in it!

Basically if it's from a computer system they have a real problem. My guess is they transcribed the information and made an error.

So waiting now for the correction. Need it to pay back tax, remember folks NS&I (National Savings & Investments) interest is paid gross!

    Cheers

    Alan

While this may be true of the products currently on offer, NS&I has offered (and may offer again sometime) some products paying interest net of basic rate tax.
