Anyone know of good campsites near Inverness? Am going in August.
Edit: I want to try to be within an hour's drive of Belladrum Estate, By Beauly, Inverness-shire, IV4 7BA..... as I live in the South West of England I have no idea whats near there!
OP - I am also taking a 2 year old..... she's not been camping before. I think my solution will be for one of us to sleep in with her to avoid escape before we wake up! Failing that..... a cage?!?!2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -
Can recommend this park http://www.lochgilpheadcaravanpark.co.uk/ as being superb.0

Hiya,
I've been taking my 3 sons camping since they were little on my own, and don't worry about them escaping, they are too mesmorised with what is going on to want to escape and generally never go further than the kids in the next tent or two.
One of our better capsites was in Lanarkshire, about 1/2 hour drive from the Time Capsule one way, the same from M & D's in another direction and we went to the Lanark waterfalls - omg it was astounding, worth it for that alone.
If your really worried about the little un's in the tent do you have a back garden you can have a trial run in over night just to see how you get on? This often helps and it's not then strange on the night / holiday when you do decide to go.
As for essentials................... An air bed is a must and I'd second the bit about your own pillow too.
Take clothes which you can layer up in as it can still get pretty cold in the summer at nights, even with the child as company in the bed.
Mmmmm hot water bottle ????
Camping chairs / table again a must, and ones with a back on them if possible as you will be sitting down a lot at night time.
Something to dry your towels on, even if it's just an old bit of rope tied to a tree and your car bumper and a few pegs.
Matches and a tin opener / cork screw (mind you most camp sites I've been on someone has a corkscrew / bottle opener for the adults night time entertainment.
Toys for the kids to play with whilst your buys doing things, bikes are great if you have a cycle carrier - TAKE THEM!
Water pistols, a frisbee, pack of cards, colouring stuff.
The kids favourite teddy / night time toy.
Rubber mallet for knocking in the tent pegs and spare tent pegs (best way to remove the tent pegs is by using a tent peg).
If your taking a gas bottle, I'd recommend the calor gas bottles (blue ones) as if you run out, most campsites will sell you a replacement if its calor, but it it's not your often stumped.
Torch or the wee lantern things which can hold tea lights for light at night time.
Radio for music / alarm clock.
Oh a bag of lollipops for your kids and the kids which they will invertently get in tow with. It's a great way to break the ice with the other kids and their parents as adults like lollipops to :rotfl:
Ok I'll stop there or I'm going to start packing as if I'm going camping to see what else I need.
Oh my tourist information gives out a map of the campsites in Scotland, with details of their facilities and contact details for making enquiries / bookings. If you can't get a hold of one PM me and I'll try and get you this years and post it up to you.
Hope this helps.0 -

There's a little campsite just outside Beauly that does towed caravans and tents- haven't been there for years, used to be run by the Lymburn family.
