campsites in scotland

Can anyone advise on some nice campsites in scotland for july, our 3 kids will be with us aged 9, 7 and 2, last time we went camping was about 10 years ago before we had kids! is the youngest too young? my mum always said i ran away from our tent when i was that age:eek:

Would love somewhere up the west coast of scotland and maybe somewhere south scotland and also what do i need for camping? a tent obviously:rolleyes: but what else?

Avon skin so soft if you are going anywhere north of Berwick in summertime- and do not book any campsite where you can see a silver birch tree- the ones with smooth silvery trunks-anywhere near- that's where the little midge monsters live.

As for camping- airbed airbed airbed;)

Not done many, but tbh if you are dubious there are many many caravan sites in some gorgeous coastal locaitons that are a way cheaper than hotels, have lots for the fmaily to do, but are a bit more secure than camping (and no one can hear you 'cuddle' through the material of your tent.;)

thanks for that, dh has to use the avon spray loads at his work and he loves it, really useful up here :D

Not sure about a caravan, last time we went to ayr and couldnt wait to come home it was that bad, all the kids did was run up and down in the caravan, hopefuly camping will be better:rolleyes:

Anyone know any campsites that are really good?

I like trossachs holiday park , nice and central for touring around - You can pay a small fee for use of the leisure facilities and there are electrical hook-ups for your tent !

have also been to faskally ( just outside pitlochry)

have just re-read your post ........ coastal ....... west coast ........... doh !

there is a lovely wee site at benderloch near Oban , which ticks both of the above boxes

There was also a thread a couple of weeks ago , about sites in SW scotland

Edit ; here is the thread RE SW Scotland

Hi thanks for that thread, looks good, mum has a tent so will get a shot of that, need to get airbeds though hmm trying to think what else i need, think she also has a stove.

Still concerned about my 2 year old, has anyone taken their child this young camping?

What is the normal rate per night for tents, sites i have seen so far say between 16-20 pounds, is this how much it costs now?

Have a look at this site https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk masses of information on there and you can do a campsite search and read reviews.

A tip, take your own pillow with you, never try sleeping on the airbeds built in one.

If your head is on your own pillow, that you use every night at home you will sleep so much better.

I've been camping with my 3 kids. Their ages are 13, 3 and 2. We had a great time. We went to Parkdean in Ayr last month. It cost £13 per night but that included entertainment passes and the swimming pool is great.

Our tent has 3 bedrooms. You can stand up in the living area which is good. My 13 year old had one bedroom, My husband slept in a bedroom with the 2 year old and I slept in the third bedroom with the 3 year old. It was lots of fun. I must admit that I was worried before we went. I thought that the 2 year old would try and escape too!!

We picked the tent up cheap too. Think that it was less than £70 new!! It isn't too heavy either so we are taking it to Germany in the summer. It will be a cheap holiday abroad and the campsites over there are great.
