Hi Really sorry to those who asked for help and I didnt get back I dont always check back at old threads so always best to PM. Not sure about punky clothes in Lisbon or not and its a few years since I have been back so best to go and reccie if you are doing anything like this.

For sawguitar I dont know if you need any help still but I will reply anyway if you dont like touristy stay away from Albufeira and Vilamoura and even Carvoeiro to some degree. It depends how far out you want to be from the main touristy resorts but I lived in a very quiet area about 20 mins drive from Albufeira and is very peaceful its called Foral they are no hotels however, there are villas to rent you can usually find some on www.villarama.com or www.wvro.com or for apartments their website is www.tranquil-escapes.com. you will need a car though as it is countryside.

Another nice area is Lagos, which is further along the coast to the west of Albufeira. (about an hour on the motorway from Faro)
It is an old town with lovely beaches, a nice riverside promenade, many good restaurants (not expensive) and shops. It is also a good base for visiting inland areas of the Algarve - pretty mountain villages like Monchique and the more lively areas like Praia da Rocha and Albufeira.
Have you thought about renting an apartment or villa instead as there are some really nice ones in the Lagos area on www.holiday-rentals.com.
