£1980 a year for pet insurance? What can I do?

Here here, Thomas51, totally agree!
Can I just add, 10 years ago and more when those of us with now old animals took out insurance, the industry was a very different place to what it is now. What are those of us with old animals supposed to do now costs have soared and we're being ripped off? - just have our pets put to sleep! And, by the way, if it was a choice of having to get rid of my pets or my car.....the car would go every time!
Increases in Vet fees tend to run at between 10% and 15% due to continual advances in medical treatments that filter through into vet care.
Pets are now routinely provided with treatments that simply did not exist ten years ago which also adds to the increases
If you add that inflation rate to your premiums from ten years ago you will see why there's such a massive increase in pet premiums.0 -

It would be interesting to see what vets' bills would really look like in a world where no one had any insurance. They charge a lot because insurance companies will pay it. They can pay it because once you have claimed you are fair game for astronomical premium rises, well beyond normal inflation. The spiral goes on and on upwards. The insurance companies win; the vets win. If you're lucky they keep your dog/cat alive after all this expense, if not then you lose, in every possible way. Advice from this dog owner (claims to date: £10K, premiums paid; approx £6K so far; current premium: approx £1300; dog: still alive) don't get a dog.0

one of our family cats had to have a cat scan. I found this ironic and cost my parents about £1000
edit: It turned out it was a cat.
edit2: It was checking for his breathing issues, unfortunately it was a bit of a waste of time.Tim0
