  • I am trying to phone the AA, Increasingly I find the numbers listed on the Say no to 0800 site are taken down. Obviously firms are monitoring it. I really feel angry about this, can't Martins site start a media campaign to show them up? What about watchdog? Can they go on there? These people are ripping us off. Is there anywhere else I can go to find alternative numbers which is not so well known?

You can make a start by not using the AA.

I've not used them for about seven years now. They are an expensive breakdown service, and their insurance service is basically cr*p.

Your post sums up their contempt for its customers.

The AA, AND RAC are insurance-based products where the insurer (at the moment) supplies the rescue and assistance directly.

How long before this is outsourced to a third party full time is anyone's guess, but calling customers 'members' is nonsense - there is no motoring advocacy done, both carefully set up offshoots to handle this, which of course the 'members' are not affiliated with.

The AA site contains numerous working 0800 and geographical numbers, what department were you seeking a number for, what number did you have in first place.

Also you can contact them by e-mail.http://www.theaa.com/aboutaa/contact.html#tabview%3Dtab9

Don't forget that 0500, 0800 and 0808 numbers are completely free when called from landlines. They'll also be free when called from mobiles when Ofcom get on with enforcing what they proposed several years ago.
Businesses using 084, 087 or 09 numbers will soon need to display details of the inbuilt Service Charge under Ofcom's "unbundled tariffs" plans.

Businesses using 084, 087 or 09 numbers for customer service, complaints, renewals, etc, will need to swap to an 01, 02, 03 or 080 number before the Consumer Rights Directive comes into effect June 2014.
