iPad mini - refundable?

Hi,
Im looking to buy an iPad mini for my friend as a gift but I would like her to have the option to return it if she needs to or wants to, for a full cash refund incase she wants to buy another smartphone instead. Any ideas as to which shops would allow that without her needing my card or shops which will accept cash as payment and hence give a full refund in cash?
Thanks! :j

No shop will allow you to buy it on a card and return for cash.
John Lewis will accept cash, I'm sure many others will. You would need to check their returns policy to see if they will allow a refund for change of mind.
Would it not be easier just to give her the money?0 -
Although your friend won't get a cash refund, there is always Amazon.
You can buy the ipad and either have it sent to you or directly to your friend.
If they don't like it, they can return it to Amazon themselves and will get the refund in the form of Amazon gift certificates which they can then use to get another tablet/smartphone (or something totally different if they wish).0 -
Far too much hassle, either ask what she wants, or buy her a gift card to the value from somewhere good like John Lewis.0

(snip)... incase she wants to buy another smartphone instead.
The Ipad Mini is not a smartphone. If she's looking for a smartphone, you need the iphone.
Also either find out what she wants, or get a gift certificate of the value for an electronics shop, probably J Lewis if you want an offline shop (more because they seem the stablest of them all out there right now regarding giving gift certificates) or an amazon one for online.0 -
Thanks everyone! I know she wants an iPad mini but just incase she wants one with more storage or decides actually rather get an iPhone by adding her own money on, would that be an option with John Lewis?
If I went into John Lewis and bought an iPad mini with cash, what would be the returns policy on that? I could give her the receipt incase she wants to return/exchange.0 -
You need to talk to them in store, as online it's return several ways, but it's always credited to the original card used. Regarding cash in store, ask in store, or check teh back of any recent receipts as they're usually printed on it.
You need to find out what she wants. J Lewis don't sell iphones.
Could you pick up a GBP prepaid debit card to load the amount on?? Then she could use that in any store.
No shop will give you a cash refund for a credit/debit/gift card payment. so either you ask what she'd like, or give her cash itself, or see the option above.0 -
I recently returned a Nook to John Lewis, back to the same store where it was purchased, after only 14 days and the assistant initially said if I had switched it on it was non-refundable. After a bit of an argument, he backed down and I got my refund. So much for their widely-advertised "We want you to be happy with your purchase - just return it to us" etc.
You don't want your friend to experience anything like that so I suggest you buy from an Apple store. You can fully try out the product and have a 14day window to return.0 -
As said previously, either give her the money or give her vouchers/gift certificate/gift card to the same value for a reputable store such as JL or Amazon.
Why make things difficult when you can make it easy?0 -

No store is obliged to give you your money back just because you have changed your mind after 'only' 14 days. Your Nook was then second hand and could not be resold as new, so the cost of absorbing that loss is the reflected in the prices paid by everyone else.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I never said I had changed my mind.
I was unhappy with the colour rendering - whites were very "creamy". However, the assistant didn't wait to hear that before (initially) saying he couldn't take it back.0
