Freeview vs freesat

At present I have Virgin medias 20meg bb and large tv package inc TiVo box, 6 months ago we were paying £39, now I have looked at my finances and spotted that we have been paying £44 for the same thing for the last 5 months, not to happy.

As for bb bm said we could keep just that for £28 pm, as soon as said that was a bit much they dropped it straight to £23 in the blink of an eye.

Tbh I am thinking of running my ipad with t mobile for £15pm, even though it's not unlimited i am still saving in the long run.

So now I am looking at getting rid of virgin media and moving to either freeview or free sat as we have never had free sat before I was wondering if there are any benefits over freeview?

Do you already have a dish or aerial because this may affect your choice.

They have a slightly different channel line up. So you may want to see which you prefer.

In one room I have my (now non subscribed) sky box running freesat and an aerial allowing me to use the freeview built in to the tv to get full free to air service. It's pretty good really.

Freesat has more bandwidth, allowing more channels, and more HD channels, and interactive content (eg Olympics) than Freeview. Channel line-up is not exactly the same, Dave I think is missing from FreeSat, but is on Freeview, for example. FreeSat, since it is broadcast from space, will also be more likely to go if you have bad weather, all other things being even. If you've already got a good aerial, you should probably go with Freeview (and a YouView box) or if you've already got a dish (with 2x feeds) you should probably go with FreeSat (and maybe a FreeTime box, but the Humax Foxsat HDR is also good). If you have neither you have the choice of platforms...

I have Freeview and Freesat and hardly ever watch Freesat as it requires the use of the external receiver and associated remote, compared to the built in Freeview receiver the TV has. Very occasionally, I will use Freesat for an HD broadcast, but rarely bother.
As already said, the channel line up is slightly different, but unless you are seriously into Dave, you're missing nothing either way. One thing you can do with Freesat is select regional programmes from other areas. I am on the border of two regions and my antenna dictates which Freeview regions I get. With Freesat you can select whichever BBC region you want to watch, in addition to it determining your default area from the postcode you give the receiver - that's how my Humax receiver does it anyway.

we have both, tonight lost itv usally channel 119 on free sat but its available on free view, we live in very hilly area usally free view loses pics but in hot weather or high winds free sat looses pics so choice isyours,hdbetter i think on free sat.

Right now i'd vote for Freeview. The Tv in the back kitchen has just gone off that's Freesat, i came here into the lounge which is Freeview to watch and they're saying sorry about the satellite going down for some viewers.
