Take the plunge with TT or wait it out for better offers?

Options
Hey guys,

Moving into rented accommodation at Uni on the 1st of July and was hunting around for the best broadband deal.

TalkTalk's essentials bundle seems like a good deal at the moment but sadly I wont be able to get the extra Love2Shop voucher. I don't know the landline of the current tenants (Nor do they), and TalkTalk has told me that if they are leaving then I will need a new line installed, which makes me miss out on the offer.

I don't know whether to wait it out for Sky to have a competitive offer on the table as they do not require me to have a new line as they recognise there is a current line installed in the property for me to use.

TalkTalk is currently around £50 cheaper than Sky's offer so I am tempted, but I needing a new line installed is putting me off as Sky doesn't require it.

Any idea what I should do, should I expect a Sky offer soon or not?

Avoid TT if you like having some sort of customer services, even Sky are better (although not by much).

Have you tried getting quotes from other companies (BT, Plusnet etc?

Which is incorrect. You will simply need the line reconnecting if disconnected.

See now I thought this, they told me a re-connection is classed as a 'new line install', meaning I wouldn't get the £70 voucher ontop of the cheap broadband.

The odd thing is Sky & Plusnet's line checkers both see there is a working phone line at the house, and ask if I will be taking over the line. BT knows this too. Why is it only TalkTalk doesn't seem to know there is a line already in place?

I get TalkTalk customer services are poor but being a student, money is my main concern.

Guess what I am in same position as you with not knowing number of exsisting phone. So I need a new line. Tried the same thing on all the othere BT etc. No new line needed!!! So I tried a couple of other addresses I had and knew numbers for. Guess what they all needed a new line as well. Has nayone got this voucher. I doubt it. AVOID.........

Thats interesting to hear. I asked TT on twitter as to why any other company will allow me to take over the current line and I was told "'cant speak for other providers sorry, it would be technically slamming a line that isn't in your name" so I'm very confused as to why other providers will allow me to do it.

Now I've seen Sky having £100 cashback on Quidco for signing up to bb, I just need to know whether paying line rental upfront will stop me getting the cashback, obviously don't want to end up paying more than I could for the sake of potential cashback
  • i had talktalk for 2 years and the service was awful, internet was intermittent and they always tried to blame my internal wiring, sockets, router, BT local loop. awful to deal with, switched away to zen in february and not a blink of trouble since. you get what you pay for....

I've been with AOL/TalkTalk for many years. Only ever one minor problem which was sorted over the phone (and yes India). Everything runs smoothly day after day and we are talking several hours each day.
    It's someone else's fault.
