Blocked shower / drain

Shower is blocked - can't lift up the plug to unblock. I think the main problem is hairs - x5 girls with long hair. Its not blocked completely. I've tried boiling water down it a couple of times before having a shower, seems to work to a point.

Previously used Mr Muscle sink unblocker - worked excellently, but quite dear - any ideas anyone?

    Pair of scissors
  • I tried everything on my sink trap with no success. The trap was pretty inaccessible so dismantling it wasn't an option.

My son poured coca-cola down the plug hole and to my amazement it cleared the blockage (dread to think what it does to your intestines!). If just pouring it down doesn't work pour some in then block up the hole so the pressure created by the fizzing has no where to go other than dislodging the blockage.

I bought Mr Muscle sink & drain unblocker from Poundland a couple of weeks ago, there are 2 sachets in the box.

Not as dear as having a plumber come out and dismantle everything. It sounds like 5 heads of long hair is really putting your plumbing under stress, I'd keep it regularly unblocked if I were you otherwise you could find the hair builds up further down the line.

Lol. Excellent point. I bought the Mr. Muscle yesterday, so hopefully that'll do the trick. Also been told to try poking a knitting needle down and try and bring up some of the hair. Lovely job!!

I found a crochet hook(big size) works best as you can hook the hair on it and pull it through. Don't try to do too much in one go thouh as you end up in a tussle between you and the hair and you don't want crochet hook stuck down your plughole!

I secon caustic soda. Nothing else works even half as well and it's as cheap as chips.

    Again, hardware shops, not supermarkets.
