I buy this one which I think is pretty good value and it is a large jar. It does take a week or so for delivery from states though so you might want to look round local ethnic shops first.0 -
I buy this (fish oil, rather than salmon oil) and stock up when on sale (also use TopCashBack and their loyalty scheme to earn points): http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=146&prodid=4210

I use the fish4dogs one as it was offer on Amazon and the 500ml one has lasted forever. Must of gotten it just after xmas and still must have about 400-450ml and I give a generous teaspoon a day. Mine loves it on scrabbled or poached egg the little devil.
Angell are meant to be a cheaper version of fish4dogs but just as good. Its one of the fonders of fish4dogs that parted ways and opened his own company.
I give mine daily with dinner but not much as can cause upset tummy. Its also recommended to supplement with Vitamin E as fish oils deplete vitamin e. I give a vitamin E tablet about 3 times a week from Dorwest supplements. I know some people don't bother though but my dog needs vitamin E anyway to help epilepsy.0 -

It's a healthy fat though, consisting of medium chain triglycerides, which are easily digested and used for energy by the body. Hence why it's such a healthy alternative for us to use in our diets too.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

You can buy it easily from health food shops such as Holland & Barret or even from Amazon, which is where I buy mine. Beware of buying from ethnic shops as you could end up with the wrong one as they usually sell a liquid version in a bottle.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Thanks for that - still, how much to give?
Also, can this be turned into liquid (warmed up?) form as I need something to mix bran into Zara's dry food and liquid oil is easy for that.0 -
I also use the Angell oil for my dogs -

We saw a difference in coat condition in just a few weeks (getting a dog ready for an important show ) and recommended it to friends, who also reported excellent results
.
However, you can add all the supplements, pills and potions you like and still not get the desired results if the dogs coat is not groomed correctly - trust me, I'm a judge :rotfl::rotfl:.
I believe this "skin/coat problem" has been going on for some time - maybe you need to look at your grooming and general coat care??"Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

Go on, enlighten me - semi long haired almost GS.. sigh.... her fur grows kind of longways, not spine->down but rather head->tail, kind of sideways really , no other way to explain this.
Got a TG conditioner for her (for dogs) that I spray on before brushing to detangle her bum hair (nightmare).
She looks ok-ish after a visit to a groomer, for a day or so then back to her normal "I am a mutt " look...
I use mikki rake on her by the way - no other brush was any good

I've used the kronch and the fish4dogs sos salmon oil, both had an effect but i felt the kronch one worked a bit better and lasted longer. Kronch does smell more, but the dogs seem to like it and i like that it comes in a pump dispenser so easier to use without getting oil everywhere.
I've black, short haired dogs and could see an improvement with the skin (cleared up scaly dry skin) and it put a lovely shine on their coats within a couple of weeks.0 -
Might purchase the kronch next as i'd prefer a pump the bottle means the oil gets all down the side and makes the bottle all slippy.
Also some dogs just don't have perfect coats mine doesn't she is given salmon oil, a grain free holistic diet made up of mostly protein and feed raw most of the time and is groomed everyday and use groomers detangle spray on her and pethead shampoo&conditioner. Her coat is very soft and shiny but she has an annoying curl to it especially on the back area its all bushy. Cavs are meant to have like sleek feathery hair but mine doesn't. Their is nothing I can do about it and people also compliment that her hair is curly and like it.
As long as your dogs are having a good diet and their skin isn't sore or irriated and your giving salmon oil (alot more benefits to it than coat like joints and brain) and you are grooming them then I think there is nothing more that you can do.
Of course they won't look as nice as they do when came from groomers but thats the same as when humans get their hair blown/done at the hairdressers and its lovely for a couple of days and then goes back to its own unruly state. Groomers have the equipment and the training to give the best results.0
