If you want a hygiene/infection control slant, watch the Whistleblower programme about Tesco/Sainsbury's from last week! Plenty of ammunition there. ;)

You're asking a forum full of the general public, who the vast majority are unlikely to know relevant topics to your degree structure, for ideas??? Are you sure you're doing the right degree?

There's a few biomedical scientists on here actually.

I'm sure one will be along soon to give some ideas.

If YOU have no clue regarding what degrees are about then why are YOU posting in a section that mainly revolves around degrees?

what do you find are the most interesting modules that you have done so far? Maybe have a look at what work the lecturers in those modules have done, that might give you a starting point.
Does your department have a stock of part dissertations, which you can look at for ideas for both subject and standard of work?
One thing...that sets pulses racing...that gets hearts pounding...for which there is no substitute...only YOU can provide...blood.

I knew exactly what my own degree was about. But it's specialist to the person doing the course, and others on the same course - the OP should surely seek peer advice from staff in their department or even fellow students on the same course? Even people in the same study area are unlikely to have exactly the same modules or background, or staff with the same specialism and interests.

    Hi there,

If its any help, I'm doing mine on the cryopreservation of zebrafish  (!!) Its associated with genetics and is also meant to give me an idea on the techniques using in IVF.
As some have already suggested, It all depends on what modules you like and what you want to do when you eventually graduate and leave uni.
Does your project have to be laboratory based? Thats where you can start, what kind of practicals do you like doing? I like the HA&P practicals (Human Anatomy and Physiology - for all you folks that tried to change the topic of the thread to be about all you). :naughty: Microbiology is too smelly!!
What year are you in and what uni do u attend coz modules can change from place to place.

    Good Luck tho...

I did (am doing finals now) biochemistry and the only project I rally wanted to do was with a professor who was full up by the time I asked him. I decided to just get a random professor assigned by the Uni and work in their field a bit.

I ended up working of enzymatic textile modification, but tbh its more real labs skills you learn than anything necessarily course related. Don't know if this applies to Biomed Sciences and whether you have that option as well, but it worked out well for me (plus I got to play on the Mass Spec. machines).

If you can't decide I would say talk to you personal tutor (thats what they are there for) and get some advice from them. Failing that open a textbook at a random page and see if anyone at your uni does that if its interesting

I would have thought what you can and can't do would depend on the specialities of the lecturers. What areas do they work in, and which of those do you find interesting? My first one was looking at a receptor and assessing the activity of several mutant versions of it. My next one was looking at chromosome aberations in human cancer tissue samples. That was really interesting.

I would say that the actual procedures you will do if it's lab based are as important as the subject so research what lab things you'd be doing with each person you could work with.

I'm doing my dissertation at the mo and had free rein on the subject matter. I had real problems deciding on a topic as I'm interested in many things (on a superficial level) and had other stuff/problems/work on my mind.

Getting desperate, I spent a few hours on line looking in the library listings of other unis just to get a subject idea and it worked!! (Kings has a good selection for my area) I found a few that I liked and it gave me inspiration. I also went into my uni and read some old papers. Also I chatted about it to my mates and we shared ideas etc. Good luck.
