Duvet users - how often do you wash yours?

I'm not saying until I hear what everyone else has to say!
I stripped the bed last night and I looked at my duvet and thought "When was the last time you were washed?" The answer came to me that I just didn't know......
So, spill the beans people!

Mmmmm about every 6 months I guess, although the duvet for my bed is king size and won't fit in my washing machine so sometimes I leave it a bit longer then buy another cheap one as it's cheaper than getting it cleaned round here.0

usually twice a year, although have recently got a new one so am interested as well as I have no idea how often you should clean them.
I take mine to the launderette as it doesnt fit in my machine. i have often considered buying a cheap one and binning it every so often0 -
I never wash mine. It is too big to fit in the washing machine, and too expensive to go to the laundrette. I air it out on the washing line regularly, and when it starts looking grotty I give it to a friend who uses it for her dogs, as a bed.
I only buy cheap duvets (double) usually in a sale, or using double up Tesco vouchers. I would love to know if there was a way to buy better quality duvets and how to clean them to make them last longer.

Well, I'm relieved! I don't think the one that's on just now has ever been washed and it's about 2 years old I think. I've got a king size and can't get it into the machine either. I've priced getting it dry cleaned and it's shockingly expensive isn't it?
I must confess to being a bit anal about making sure that the duvet is in the same configuration every time I change the bed. Do you know what I mean? I have actually written T/R on the top right corner of my duvet to ensure it goes on the same way all the time. I just can't bear the thought that either my hubby's side will be on my side or that the 'feet' end will be at the 'face' end. Same with pillows - I can't let anyone else change the bedding in case they don't put things back to their original positions.

Maybe once a year, every two years. After I tried to wash it in the bath, ended up making a hole in the bath (don't ask!) and needing a complete new bathroom, I now take it to the laundrette if it needs a good clean. But I prefer just to air it outside regularly, as the filling seems to clump together if it gets a machine wash. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
