Cancelling BT

    Hi good people,
I'm just wandering what rights we have cancelling BT if the line they provided was unable to get broadband up and working?
We managed to get the free installation and thus the 18 month contract and £7.50 x each month cancelling early - and as it's been less than a month (but over 14 days) I'd like to know how much of this we are liable for.
We took internet through SKY, and the only reason for us having a BT line was so that we could actually get broadband. As broadband has not been possible I'm wondering how tied into this contract we are.
A BT engineer has attended to look at the problem (BT openreach according to BT when I rang to cancel, so a totally different company and not their fault "as they don't have a monopoly"). The line is fine from our house up as far as the CAB, so the problem seems to be from the CAB back to the central point (in Cardiff).
BT said it's not their fault - so will be held to the contract, and they could offer us broadband. I asked how much they would charge but they're rates seem high and I've not heard much good about them.
Anyway - we've cancelled, and Virgin is on its way next week (for better or worse), so just wondering where we stand if and when BT send us a hefty bill,

    Any advice gratefully received!

You will get a charge from BT for cancel of line as the reason for the cancel is not BT error.
When you called BT and agreed with BT to supply the line the terms and conditions are not dependent on sky ( another company) being available.
BT provided you with what you agreed to which is a working voice line.
No way out of this im afraid but i would suggest you call SKY and ask if they may compensate you ? Good luck.
