Renault Megane Mk2 Not Starting
Hi. I have a 2003 Renault Megane Mk2 1.4 petrol. It was working ok earlier in the week but today pressed the button and it won't start. Battery is ok as is only 3 months old.
All the dash messages are ok such as "Press down brake or clutch and push button" etc.
You can hear that an electric current is being applied when you press start button but no noise or reaction from the starter motor.
Is the starter motor dead or could it be a loose connection?
Any ideas? Thanks.

Are there any noises? Clicks? Do you hear the system 'priming' itself?'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

No clicks this time. I know as I have heard them in the past.0

Then check fuses and relays. If not call the AA/RAC out! (Presuming you are a member!!).'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

OK, do you mean the fuses in slot in the glovebox? What am I looking for, burnt out fuses? If so which one? Also, are the relays next to the starter motor or the coil? Thanks0

On older Megane's (I had a 1997 one), the connection to the starter motor was right down near the ground where it could get wet and then the starter motor wouldn't even try to turn. (Yes, this was an idiotic design!) Or this connector could simply work loose and break the connection. Merely pulling this connector off and pushing it back on again fixed a few non-starts of my old car. Not sure if it's the same for the more modern Meganes but it's worth checking if it is.0

Thanks, I haven't had a look at the starter motor yet so will check the connection.0

Do you have to disconnect the battery to disconnect and reconnect the starter motor?0 -

I never did, and can't see any reason why you'd need to, but I am not a mechanic or an expert in such matters. Presumably though there is no voltage applied across the starter motor unless you are tyring to start the car.0 -
OK thanks again0

does the electronic steering lock disengage when you press the button?0
