I agree with DLW. Labour's housebuilding plan will definitely fix the Eurozone economic malaise thus paving the way for an economic boom in the UK. I should think it will lead to general worldwide growth allowing Ed Milliband to claim that he saved the world...

At last, Labour's big new housebuilding project is revealed, along with plans to tackle racketeering landlords, move housing benefit spending to home building and give tenants support and power to protect themselves from leeching landlords!

Sounds like a good idea - if only Labour implemented something like this when they were in power. Instead, they squandered the opportunity and contrary to then Chancellor Gordon Brown's promise in 1997, allowed house prices to spiral out of control.

It was the Bar Steward socialist Prescott who launched the pathfinder scheme which saw homeowners thrown out of their homes and their homes demolished, the land sold to developers at cheaper prices.

The pathfinder scheme was unfathomable to me. Way to p*** off the electorate for starters. Much better to leave the owner occupiers be and turn over the empty properties to the local authorities for them to bring up to spec and let them to housing applicants.

In Guardian today ... some light at the end of this dreary old dragging recession (which even the IMF now says is handicapped by Osbornes miserable economic plan!) Go for Growth they said , but he hasn't. Housebuilding will get Britain moving again and help to stop construction skills from rotting into oblivion.

As much as I hesitate to defend Osborne, what the IMF actually meant wasn't go for growth, it was go for debt.

Its hardly surprising that a cartel of neoliberal bankers, with a proud track record of benefiting from helping bubble economies wreck themselves with debt fuelled inflation, followed closely by more loans followed by structural asset stripping; would like the UK to take on more of their debt.

Its nice to see them being given the finger.

Its also nice to see Labour finally come up with a policy, eight years too late, to try and redress some of the awful damage they have done to this country with their wretched housing bubble. However as everyone, including them, know they aren't getting into power any time soon I can't see it making too much difference.

I would be interested to see where the IMF said this?

So far there's nothing to suggest that Osborne has got it wrong. Perhaps not the desired results. However does appear to be steering the ship in the right direction.

They said that on the Titanic. At least we aren't going full steam anywhere.

No, we're supposed to be discussing "Labour's big new housebuilding project". What is it exactly?

Growth is projected to be 0.6% for Q2. Bet you're gutted, although you'll probably just claim it would have been 6.0% if labour's house building suggestion (note that this is not actually a labour policy, just some rhetoric) was taken up.

P.S. swinney is hardly a useful source - he just wants more cash from the treasury so the SNP can bribe voters a bit more...
