that maybe the case but it is good advice, with support from the law.

If the police choose not to take steps to stop unwanted people from harassing people when told to stop, that's a different matter.

If you close the door on them, it would take a daft goon to knock again, they want their bonus, very unlikely to get one from a household that closed the door on them, they will move on to the next one.

If you don't want the visits, it's easy, ring TV licencing tell them you are withdrawing their implied rights to call at your property, they will then mark you down for no visits.

If you really don't watch any live TV on the TV/laptop etc. then ok but if you do and are evading payment then buy a licence! Then they won't harass you! There is absolutely no good reason for not paying.

if you had taken the time to read the thread, you will see I do have a licence.

Believe it or not but some people do not want to pay or can not afford to pay for a TV licence so choose to not watch live feeds...some people do not have a TV shock horror but it's true, just because people talk about ways of not getting harassed doesn't mean they are suggesting breaking the law.

If I choose not to watch live feeds, why should I have someone knocking at my door asking to come in and search my property, I can't think of another example where this would be acceptable, do the fisheries knock on peoples doors and ask to search for fishing rods and freshly caught fish, no just the TV goons feel they can treat everyone as if they have committed a crime with no evidence, if you read one of their letters they are clearly implying you have already committed a crime just by not having a licence.

Some people stand up for their rights, if you want to roll over and take it...then be my guest.

I had read that you yourself have a licence . However you do appear to be supporting those who don't . As I said , anyone can avoid being harassed by observing the law and buying a licence . The only group entitled to get annoyed with the tv license checks is those who watch no live tv .

So you turned the TV Licence man away because you were busy watching Britains got talent live on the tele that your not supposed to have because your not paying for it?

Hopefully you will get charged and pay a fine for lying. TV Licence don't care whether your friend was in the BGT studio. That is not a waiver I'm afraid.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. But don't TV detector vans have equipment that can tell if you are watching live TV?

You miss the point, Yes I support those who do not have a licence, why do you equate that with breaking the law?

I have not once suggested breaking the law, I've made it clear I have a licence, and that if one chooses to not watch live feeds etc then you do not have to put up with the crap the TV licence goons dish out.

well, not once has detector van evidence been used to get a conviction in court, so draw your own conclusions from that, whether there are such vans is open to argument, many believe the only thing the vans contain is a little man watching the light cast from a TV screen from inside a house and matching the timings of the light flickers with a TV program, my guess if such equipment exists it would be almost impossible to pin point a sinal from a dense area of housing, such as flats etc imo the vans are only a scare tactic.

But maybe they use their database of properties that don't have a license, along with the details that shops have to submit when selling a new TV. Then they target those properties only.

With modern technology I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to detect equipment that is receiving a TV signal (even if they only pretended that they could 25 years ago).

with a digital signal now I would think it would be harder not easier, if it was easy or for that matter even possible why do they spend milions sending out letter after letter, then send someone round a few times then try and get you to sign a confession, then take you to court and stil don't produce evidence from these vans, if all they had to do was "detect" you are watching a live feed! a digital signal is all round us, how on earth can they pick up a signal from my TV to say it's on and receiving a live feed,:rotfl: sorry I just don't believe in these vans!

You would be surprised what technology is available for surveillance and electronic warfare. And much of this technology eventually becomes commercially available.
