ompassion is a good old well know highly scented rose. I have 2 which are at least 15 yrs old . The colour changes as the flower developes and fades, with a deep pink tinged with palest yellow at times. It repeat flowers with deadheading /pruning back to a couple of bud thingys (forget the name lol )
Sometimes well into november.
another pink, my friend has Zephrine drouhin , amazing deeper cerise pink velvet like petals, great scent but prone to blackspot in her case, dont know if this is normal in all plants though. ( just checked, it is tricky to prevent diseases )0 -
^^ all of these are very good suggestions. I love Compassion. If you only have room for one climbing rose it has to be compassion. the colour changing one mentioned above sounds like masquerade like Zephrine Drouhin its prone to blackspot.
Rosa new dawn (pale pink) is lovely as is Albertine (salmon pink). Crimson Glory is a heavy scented red but the flowers open to reveal the stamens so not good if you want a blousey double flower.
Jasmina (lilac), Dublin Bay (Red) Gloriana (purple red) & star performer (satin pink) are patio climbing roses and only get 6-10ft. Dublin Bay will also grow in a part shaded spot. All really strong scent.0 -

I was describing compasssion as the colour changing one...I have 2 of them
My dublin bay has never been very good, but it might be its situation.0 -

Which hill are you up?0

I also have two Compassion roses which I love, which have been in a long time with no problems. If you want to consider an alternative, there's a climbing version of Gertrude Jekyll (David Austin roses) which also has a wonderful scent.0

Getrude Jekykll is claimed by some to have the best scent of all - and she's certainly extremely fragrant! I have the non-climbing version but must say that she isn't particularly vigorous, which may not be what you would want of a climber, assuming a climbing version shares the same habit (which may not be the case, of course - you'd need to check).
GJ is from the David Austin rose collection, as tenzing says, and if you want to see a selection of superb roses, I would recommend his website http://www.davidaustinroses.com/english/advanced.asp
If you do decide on one of his, however, I'd suggest a little caution about where you buy it. I have seen Austin roses in a deplorable condition in garden centres ( a branch of what was Wyevale, was the worst!). Either get it direct from Austin, or from a specialist who understands the care roses need.
Incidentally, someone earlier suggested Zephirine Drouhin - she would be a good choice and has done well with me, though mine was a a little slow to establish..0 -
I've been on David Austin site and love the choice and info. If he is ok to deal with I think I'll just get from him. TY all0

Have a look at l'etiole de Hollande too! Fabulous scent, great climber and beautiful deep red velvet type flowers!0
