Buy up/ kill off the competition. Close it down, put prices back up

In response to what? The market has just become even more concentrated with the departure of 02, so there are now just 4 major players. I don't see why a price war should result just yet.

There is always churn in the broadband market and every ISP wants a bigger share of the customer base.

For instance as FTTC continues to roll out there will be an exodus of disenchanted cable customers. I suspect there will be a scramble to grab them by ISPs offering their own version of the FTTC product. VM can't really compete with FTTC without investing more in their network and I doubt the new owners will be keen on increasing the already huge debt mountain. All cable can offer is a high headline speed and as soon as many customers in a segment start using their supposed unlimited connection in earnest the congestion rises to unacceptable levels.

Might be a price war in the areas where the ISPs have installed their own equipment, but for the rural exchanges where the only equipment is BT's than the price war will more be like a mild water fight.
